The steps of accounting cycles are revenues, expenditures, conversion/ production, financing, fixed assets, and financial reporting. Revenues most often occur as the result of the selling of a service or product. These transactions are recorded in the form of cash receipts and sales orders. Expenditures are a result of the materials and labor need to generate revenues. For example a dry cleaning business would need certain chemicals, bags and hangers for cleaned clothes, and employees to operate the business. Conversion represents the production or the good or service sold by the company. In other terms the time/ cost to produce and market the good or service. Financing is also known as and outstanding debt, such as stocks or any outstanding bonds. The fixed asset details the purchase, disposition, and depreciation of company assets. Once all journal entries have been posted and all accounts closed a trial balance is prepared and is used to identify errors and eventually prepare the financial reporting for the company. Accounting systems have become more automated and the need for human intervention is becoming more limited. Automation of these systems does allow for increased efficiency and accuracy and has allowed manual accounting task to be performed more quickly. Human intervention is necessary though to ensure the data being entered is correct. Human intervention can also help to identify errors that may have been made in the initial inputting of information. As technology evolves it is…

The accounting cycle refers to the process by which companies produce their financial statements for a specific period of time. It is called a cycle because the steps are repeated each reporting period. The organization at which I am employed completes its accounting cycle monthly. The organization is a privately owned nursing facility licensed and incorporated in the state of Virginia that has been in business since 1966. An explanation of the overall accounting cycle at the organization including a description of the people, processes, and systems that are integral to the cycle will follow.…

In the poem “Icarus,” Christine Hemp uses literary devices to convey that a father-son relationship can be problematic. Hemp pulls a twist on the original myth, and retells it in Icarus’ point of view. Her version of the myth shows that Icarus wasn’t very fond of his father Daedalus; however Daedalus didn’t realize that Icarus wanted to be free. “bound by the string…for years to untie TO I didn’t know…to return” (#14 and 15 TO 16 and 17) This quote portrays the emotion Icarus feels towards his father by the use of irony. At this point, the reader understands that Icarus had to deal with Daedalus with only the hope of exiting the prison, but once free he longs to be away from his father. Christine Hemp threw a new strand of emotion into the mix by showing that Icarus wanted to be free; as doing so, he caused a catastrophe. “Poor Daedalus, his mouth an O below, his hands outstretched to catch the rain…” (#18 and 19) This excerpt shows diction, which illustrates Daedalus’ innocence with the words ‘poor’ and ‘O below’. Hemp also tried to show the difference between Icarus and Daedalus by using asyndeton. “my clumsiness with figures, father’s calm impatience, cool logic, interminable devising.” (#8 and 9) This shows Icarus’ reasons as to why he doesn’t like Daedalus, and why he tries to be better than his father. Since Daedalus is clueless, he couldn’t prevent Icarus’ death; now the reader can infer that Daedalus will have a life of sorrow and regret, without knowing the truth. Hemp’s use of the devices diction, irony, and asyndeton help the reader further understand the myth in a way the original myth couldn’t.…

In the short story “Saturday Climbing”, author W. D. Valgardson skillfully uses rock climbing to portray the difficulties of parenting his independent daughter. The father, Barry, feels as though he and his daughter are growing apart, so in a desperate attempt to reconnect with her he signs both of them up for rock climbing classes. The climbing classes show Barry that parenting takes time and practice to become good at. After classes finish the father and daughter go out into the wild to rock climb. The mountain represents the true essence of parenting, as it, “prove[s] to be deceptive…at first the climbing [is] little more difficult than walking up stairs. Then, unexpectedly, the surfaces [smooth].” (1) During the climb Barry notices his daughter taking a different, more dangerous route than he did. This brave act makes him realize that there are many different paths a person can take, and his daughter would take some that he will not agree with. Like the climb, watching his daughter grow seems to be agonizingly slow and painful for Barry, but for her it is an exciting new experience. Barry quickly recognizes that his daughter won’t always act the way he wants nor do what he says, but it is a part of growing up that needs to be done. Soon, Barry’s daughter asks to take the lead in the climb, so he reluctantly lets her because he knows that after she graduates from high school he would have to get used to her leading her own life, but he would always be, “ever watchful, full of fear…ready to absorb the shock of any fall.”…
