How Engineers Contribute

Society’s standards always change and engineers contribute to society by meeting these demands. Engineers create technology and devices that people use day to day. They innovate current technology by making it more practical and improving the quality to satisfy consumers. When society’s trends and fads change, engineers comply by redesigning products to accommodate for the changes. Engineers save time and money for every one by speeding up processes and cutting down production costs through efficiency. Society relies on engineers every day. Engineers create and develop various transportation modes, communicational devices and infrastructures that people use on a daily basis.

Society uses technology that engineers construct. Many people in society use transportation technology to get to their destinations. Many people drive cars, take the train or bus and ride bicycles. Without engineers, all these transportation modes would cease to exist. Engineers play a major role in vehicle production and efficiency. Without communicational technology society cannot function and would crumble down. Communication takes part in every person’s life through different avenues. People use phones, e-mail and social networks on the internet to communicate with one another. Engineers developed these communicational technologies and continue to find ways to improve it. They discover ways to help society use technology by making it more practical. Practicality embodies an engineer’s mindset and this mentality contributes to society’s economy.

Engineers stimulate society’s economy by allowing people to save money. Businesses hire engineers to help their production efficiency and to find ways to cut costs. Engineers redesign products so that they require less material but serve the same functions and capabilities. They find ways to boost the speed it takes to make each product. This allows the company to create more products per day and saves time. With

According to Langdon Winner, “Our society needs to establish forms and limits for a technological change that derive from a positively articulated idea of what society ought to be. (p.52)” With this powerful thought, Winner has presented an alternate route to evaluate the ethics of technology and practice of engineering. It is important that individuals develop technology that is compatible with the kind of society they want to build (p.52). Thus, it is significant to scrutinize three constituents of philosophy of technology namely political, social and ethical.…

In this generation, technology and society go hand and hand. Technology and human life cannot be separated in the perspective of various people. Society has grown to have a co-dependence on technology. As stated by Fareed ZakAria in his article “How to Restore the American dream”, “technology is not only affecting society, but its creating a better reality. Everything is able to be achieved through ease” (Zakaria 460). In a broader view, we depend on technology for everything. Each individual in the world today uses this new entity in their daily lives. The use has become too great, that most of the time it’s viewed as a habit. The demand for technology keeps on increasing everyday as we use technology to travel, to communicate, to learn, and to handling business but most importantly, to live in peace and comfort. In the article, “Technology & Society: A Canadian Perspective”, the authors said the following about technology. “Technology and Society, we are told exist in a dynamic reciprocal relationship; they act on, and react to, one another” (Goyder and Aant). Without technology society is able to…

“In just the past decade or two… [With] the increasing importance of technology in our world… science and technology are just as amenable to social analysis as politics or religion.”[1] The effects that technology has on society and vice versa have changed and evolved since the Technological Revolution of the late 19th century, just as the technology has. “Scholars now talk about how the push and pull between technology and society, rather than just the push of technology on society.”[1]…

Technology is not used just in engineering but used in healthcare work and many other areas. We’ve used technology as a benefit to increase our knowledge and as a helping tool. For example, young students today take the ACT for future purposes. In the math portion of the ACT students are allowed to use a calculator, which many take advantage of. In the earlier years, when the ACT first appeared, many did not use calculators except their prior knowledge. The calculator was used less than they are now. This is very interesting because the digital revolution is replacing “traditional” things. Another example is a library. Libraries are no longer a place where someone can find information, especially when someone has technology all around them. People of the Stone Age did not have the luxury of turning on the television, but advances in tool making technology led prehistoric humans towards modernity (Holt). In World War II, draft boards kept engineers and scientists on the homefront to work on machines instead of sending them off, where they were most likely to die (Coopersmith). Technology is not just a positive advance, but also a fun learning tool for…

A man named James A Michener once said “Scientists dream of doing great things. Engineers do them.” Engineers will always be a colossal part of society because as this quote says, Scientists plan and figure out great things, but the engineers are the ones who take them from the blueprints to real life. Engineers are the biggest part of the future because engineers are the actual people who build all of our ideas. If engineers had not existed it would be like having electricity without a lightbulb. As long as math and science are still growing engineering will be growing as…

Have you ever wondered who were the first people to create some pieces of technology, like the cell phone or the mouse, maybe your videogames that you play? Well I am going to tell you who created what and how technology has changed our lives. Technology is a broad concept that deals with a person’s usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects a person’s ability to control and adapt to its environment. In American society, it is a consequence of science and engineering, although several technological advances predate the two concepts. Even though technology may seem like a hassle for the older generations, it has greatly impacted the world because most families are dependent on technology as a part of their daily lives. Living in a modern society, technology has changed the world in an optimistic way, making many lives easier, safer, and better. Over the years, technology has grown like a young child; it started off crawling, then it learned to walk, and finally matured enough to run at a speed at which it is impossible to catch up to. To some extent, technology is inseparable from our lives. Through the years, technology has continuously bettered lives, even though there are incidences of the contrary.…

As an engineering student, I have to consider how we are able to improve a better quality of social life through a utilization of technology. It is impossible for us to have optimum technology utilization on the right target if we lack of socio-cultural understanding, since introducing technology to the society is not always as smooth as predicted. Therefore, having more point of views through learning and conducting research is one kind of contribution a student can make. As we grasped the technical concepts by learning, we could apply these concepts in real…

We owe it to aerospace engineers because “Few disciplines have inspired humanity as much as aerospace engineering. Many of the technological advances that are now part of our daily lives, such as handheld calculators and non-stick pans, were initially developed to aid in space flight. Today’s aerospace engineers are still working to help us view the edges of the universe as well as improve the way that we live our lives right here on planet earth.” (Peterson’s staff) This quotation proves that Aerospace engineering has changed the world for the better. Many world creations are credited to aerospace engineers. To understand the work of Aerospace Engineers, a person needs to know the basics of the engineer's job, the specific inventions produced…
