Enders Game essay A teacher is someone who teaches another person a skill or gives them knowledge. In the real world we are surrounded by them. In society teachers are crucial for success weather its personal success or career success. Teachers are needed. In Enders case he has multiple teachers who teach him how to succeed in battle school. In Orson Scott Card’s Enders Game Enders success as a leader is only possible because of the strong teacher who want him to succeed. This shows that a person needs a teacher who believes in them to have success. Colonel Graff is one of those teacher who develops ender and is necessary for Enders success. Valentine is Enders older sister and is one of

Colonel Graff says, “[w]ith Ender, We have to strike a delicate balance. Isolate him enough that he remains creative-otherwise he’ll adopt the system here and we’ll lose him. At the same time, he needs to make sure he keeps a strong ability to lead”(27). By Colonel Graff saying this he is implying that he is so string in the belief of Enders success that e is willing to put ender in isolation to keep his creativity and still be a good leader. This shows Graff is an effective teacher because he makes big decisions for ender against his will if it means Ender will succeed. Colonel Graff cares for Enders well-being and teaches him to stand up for himself no matter the means. Colonel Graff States, “so what will you do about it? Crawl into a corner? Start kissing their little backsides so they’ll love you again? There’s only one thing that will make them stop hating you and that is being so good at what you do that they just ignore you”(35). When Colonel Graff says this he knows how ender is feeling and is sympathetic but to teach Ender to stand up for himself he has to push ender and make the other boys hate him so …show more content…
Mazer Rackham teaches Ender that no one is going to tell him what the enemy is going to do. So Mazer teaches Ender how to understand his enemies and that is one of the causes of Enders success as leader. “I am your Enemy, The first one that is smarter than you. There is no teacher but the enemy, no one but the enemy will tell you what the enemy is going to do. No one but the enemy will tell you how to destroy and conquer”(263). When Mazer Rackham says this he teaches Ender that he was to look past the enemy and understand them so he can then predict every single move. This proves Mazer strongly believes in Enders success because he wants Ender to think of him as a bad guy even though he is not. Mazer Rackham Teaches Ender that there is no point in wasting time in trying to be happy because he does not choose when to be happy and this leads to Ender focusing and eventually being the leader that he is now. “I am not a happy Man Ender, Humanity does not want us to be happy it merely wants us to be brilliant on its behalf survival first then happiness”(277). When Mazer Rackham says this he is trying to teach Ender not to waste time on being happy because happiness comes and goes and he cannot control that so he teaches him not to waste time and stay focused and he does and in the end becomes a successful

Thinking he was playing a game Ender had fought a galactic war. Once again Orson Scott Card hazes the thin line between your appearances and your realities. What Ender thought was a game was a life or death situation. If Ender would have listened to his heart and lose the last game, he could have saved an intelligent species, but we never know our outcomes until our decisions have been played out and it is too late to change our mind. Orson Scott Card highlighted the fact that every little thing in someone’s life makes a huge impact. As insignificant as it may seem everything has a purpose. If Ender had not played these games to win the “Buggers” could very well be alive and not knowing their intentions, letting them live was too big a risk. All throughout his life Ender had been played with, an object of constant manipulation and mind games. Battle and Command School were no different than Earth in this aspect. On Earth Ender was bullied and manipulate into doing what he wants by Enders evil older brother Peter, while at Battle School, Colonel Graff the head administrator never failed to lie to Ender, only tell him half the truth and additionally manipulate him, When Ender got to his last training program Command School Ender was manipulated and lied to in a way he could not even begin to…

His sister, Valentine, was needed to convince him that he needed to reenlist and save the human population from the buggers (alien species). After his conversation with his sister Ender moves on to command school where he prepares to become the battle commander of the entire International Fleet. He trains with the great Mazer Rackham who had won the second invasion for the humans. Some of Enders close friends from battle school become his platoon leaders and help him win almost all of his battles. After much training Ender is faced with a final test in which he faces an almost unbeatable enemy where he only won by completely destroying their home planet and queens/controllers. It is then revealed to Ender that his training battles had not been training, it had been him facing a real enemy which he had destroyed. Although Ender is a hero, he feels horrible and is relieved that he finds a bugger egg with which he could repopulate the bugger race. As we read the book and watched the movie I believe that the book is better than the movie for many reasons. Some of these reasons include character development, details, and an overall better timing of…

    Ender vs Bean

In chapters six and seven, Ender is faced with several challenges that test both his integrity and perseverance. It all begins with the Giant’s Drink. This game symbolizes something that is seen as impossible to defeat. Beating this game would be put in the same category as sinking the titanic, or breaking down the Berlin Wall. Both things were deemed impossible, but both were done by amazing feats of nature and perseverance. Ender outsmarts the Giant, and instead of drinking either of his poisons, he goes directly for the eye of the giant leaving him defenseless and dead. Personally, I can relate to this chapter in several ways. One thing that sticks out in my mind however would be when I was told that I was not good enough to make it into the Junior National Young Leaders Conference. (JNYLC) My fifth grade teacher told me that I did not try hard enough to be seen as a leader. She told me I had plenty of potential, but I would never lead because of a lack of drive. Ever since that day I have made it a goal of mine to strive for the best in all aspects of life. My first reward came in sixth grade when I was nominated for the JNYLC. I traveled to Washington D.C., Boston, Massachusetts, and New York City, New York all for this one leadership conference. Now not only am I seen as a leader among my peers, but among young people all over America. This concept ties into chapter seven. Ender is promoted to the Salamander Army, but is unwanted there. Bonzo makes it very clear that Ender is an outcast among the rest of his people. When I went to the first conference in D.C., i was the outcast. Ender then went into battle with his fellow soldiers. He was ordered not to use his weapon, but in an attempt to save his army from defeat went against orders and froze five of the remaining nine enemies to end the battle with a draw. In the same aspect of Ender going against orders but working out for…
