Climate change will be the end of this world as we know it, according to David Wallace-Wells, the author of “The Uninhabitable Earth,” an article which has spread through this country in something of a frenzy. Wallace-Wells’ article is fast-paced with alarmist tactics to target readers who believe they are in sync with the dangers of climate change, or those who may be on the fence about whether there is enough evidence to support the prevention movement.…

The story itself begins in a non-linear fashion. The protagonist muses about the end of the world, and different scenarios that will bring about this end. He eventually reaches the conclusion that humans will wipe each other out. “We could find a way to feed any number of people and perhaps even a way to avoid wiping each other out with the bomb.” the protagonist mentions. “Those things we are very good at, but we have never been any good at changing ourselves or the way we behave” (Fast, 150).…

As Franklin D. Roosevelt said in his first inaugural speech,”…The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” Though the speech delivers a passionate affect towards the American public for years, it seems like it lost meaning 60 years later. The 1990’s era is one of the most significant decades of the early modern era where the general public begins to fixative their lives with technology. Upon as early as 1998, various individuals begin to ponder on what will happen to their lives as they reach the beginning of a new millennium. Many think about what new horizons await them in the year 2000, others think about the historic event in general, and others worry about how their getting home after New Year’s Eve. Many people are concerned about the sudden paranoia about the dangers of reaching the year 2000; panicking and driven with fear about what may be the end of all humanity. The Y2K Bug has driven many people to go crazy and go to extreme lengths to protect themselves because of rumors, the government, and the media itself. The role of media in covering the event has cause tensions between the common people and the government in terms of business and their safety.…

Just like the game “the name of the game is the game itself,” The End of Nature is a book written by Bill McKibben that talks about the end of nature. It is about the different destructions brought by the activities of humans towards nature. Although questions has been raised regarding the span of time that these effects will happen and the magnitude or the extent of which these effects will happen, the author argues that most have underestimated the factors on the nature’s end.…

In short, in “Cheer up, it’s just the end of the world,” Ira Chernus discusses that an apocalypse is a genuine ongoing threat today. Since biblical times, apocalyptic stories always begin with the fact that the end is near; then, after the world ends, a new one will arise. Some apocalyptic ideas suggest that the world will end abruptly, while other ideas suggest a slow approach. Chernus adds that some ideas of apocalypses have shifted from “’the end of everything,’" to “’the end of anything’” (Chernus 19-21). Overall, Chernus identifies the issues caused by unrealistic ideas of apocalypses, such as “’psychic numbing’” (Chernus 19-21), and he stresses the importance of identifying real apocalyptic threats, such as climate change. Chernus then…

He said that his version of a true apocalypse would be a reoccurrence of the comet that ended the dinosaurs, or "human activities" that make the world's atmosphere too unsustainable for humans to survive. However, unlike Alejandra Guillen, Jonathan's fears on death do not influence his views on the apocalypse. His fears on death mainly concerns life after death, whether there is something out there after one dies, or if there is simply nothing. For the last question, whether he believes that the apocalypse is already happening, he responded, " Yes, negative human activity is becoming so rampant that we are destroying ecosystems, killing many species of flora and fauna thus we are slowly destroying the earth[']s natural environmental flow. It has been scientif[i]cally proven that we have entered the sixth great ex[t]inction which humans are at the base of". The results of these short questions were surprising to show that average people with ideas that are not related to one another, have a similar understanding or view of an apocalyptical world which humans have caused either directly or indirectly. Alberto, Alejandra, and Jonathan fear death; people fear death, but not enough to show resolve into improving Earth's…

The enormous control that people have on the health of the earth has become a major problem. It is the duty the people of every nation to decide on whether they choose to continue with their ways and watch the world crash before their eyes or to do something to prevent the end from coming. “Perhaps the World Ends Here”, by Joy Harjo, exemplifies the relationship between her people, the Native Americans, and the earth. Her poem shows how all societies need the “gifts of earth” (Harjo 548) to survive and yet they have nothing to give back to the earth. Harjo uses a combination of metaphors, allusions, and symbolism to emphasize the fact that people of all ethnicities should realize the impact they are able to have on the earth and how they set the stage for the future generations.…

The year was 2077 when the world fell into a deep darkness the world that I had once knew was gone. It was around 8 in the morning on a cold December day, when the first bombs had been dropped. What had been an average joyful December day turned into a nightmare filled with sadness and terror within a few matter of seconds. That same day the war between the United States,Russia, and China had began and ended when each country decided to launch their nuclear weapons at each other. Within minutes almost every major city on the East Coast including New york,Boston,Philadelphia, and Washington D.C were devastated leaving them to ruins and submerged with lethal doses of radiation. The earth once so beautiful and green was now dark and left to ashes.…

Throughout the 20th century, humanity has witnessed monumental historical events. From the great depression, to the devastation of two world wars, to the Holocaust, all the way to the creation of a superweapon. However, The Cold War was a different and unique concept on its own. So unique, that humanity has entered a new chapter never discovered before. Throughout history, there was always conflict, but never before has a conflict of this magnitude and potential mutual destruction ever been observed before. “Human history is highly nonlinear and unpredictable” (Michael Shermer). Mr. Shermer’s quote is highly relevant in the Cold War, because at its height, both the United States and the…

“Harold Camping, the Radio evangelist who predicted the apocalypse would begin Saturday, May 21, 2011, said today, [May 23, 2011] his understanding of God’s plan was just a little off” (Schabner). Camping believed that if he put the correct numbers into a mathematical equation that he would be able to predict the exact day and time of the rapture. However in reality, The Bible tells us that we are unable to predict this moment, that the only thing we can do in regard to the rapture is “watch” (ESV, Matt. 24:13). The Bible says that the rapture will come like a “thief in the night” and that men and women who have chosen to follow Christ should not be surprised by the event (Paul 's Epistle). They are told to expect the impending rapture; however, they are also told to understand that the exact time and date of this event will never be known to them. The only way to track the coming event is to watch for prophesies to be fulfilled. These prophesies have already begun to be fulfilled throughout the past centuries.…

Neorealists argue that the end of Cold War was purely a reoccurring event which marked the point of international restructuring, but it was of no great importance. This journal responds to this view as its writer attempts to convey the importance of that time, as it marks the end of a two century interregnum in which the world is transformed from the Ancien Règime of monarchical powers towards a new world order. This journal contains a wide collection of work, from which the writer portrays that the world has two possible endings in terms of its international structure. Both ends seem rather bleak and in essence describe the fate of liberal internationalism, first ending focuses on the indefinite liberal homogeny whilst the other looks into a more pluralist world system.…
