It is said that by 2050, the population of the United States will increase by 82 % if current trends continue as they are. It is also states that of that increase in the population that 50 million will be immigrants and another 67 million will be of natural immigrants that are now citizens. Jeffrey Passel and D 'Vera Cohn (2008). With the current bias, and prejudice attitude toward ethnic groups. We as a society will need to become more diverse in our society to accommodate this growth in our population. Some will fear this “invasion” of our borders, but others will be ready to embrace it with opportunity. Our country is ready for change and this is the change that could continue to make this the greatest country that it is.
Some of the challenges the culture of the United States face due to the diverse people in the country is communication. Another challenge is the attitude of being unwilling to change, the attitude of “it has always been done this way…” comes in the way, with a diverse group in the workplace. Finally, with diversity in the workplace comes the challenge of implementing all this and mixing the diversity in the company and getting the benefits of a diverse group. With the difference of ethnic backgrounds, there tends to be beliefs and perceptions on how things are and should be. These challenges can be great stumbling blocks at the work place. Diversity not only involves how people perceive others, but how they perceive themselves as well. With a large company there is a wide assortment of challenges for everyone to work effectively as an organization. Human resource professionals need to deal with these issues properly. Successful organizations recognize the need for immediate action and are ready and willingly to spend the resources on managing the diversity in the workplace. There is a reason for the company to want to manage this challenge,

Diversity has many faces that range from gender, culture, ethnicity, race, economic status, physical abilities, and many more, and this can be a problem that can affect many people who are employed or looking for employment in society because they are being judged or discriminated against for their differences. But if business took the time to understand the importance of differences in people so many doors could open for the employers and employees. Allowing diversity in the workplace could increase work morale, attendance, customers, and efficiency and create a less stressful environment for employees. This is possible by first increasing the diversity in the workplace and allowing for employees to learn about each other’s differences and…

Mr. Thomas Delong and Mr. Michael Brookshire paper assesses the costs and benefits of pursuing diversity. They reviewed the primary barriers to creating diverse workplaces and propose options for companies’ interest in pursuing diversity in their organization. The fundamental reason for embracing diversity is the perspective on discrimination and diversity. Discrimination is an act or pattern of acts that affects the individual. Diversity is an attribute of an organization’s culture that has an impact on the entire organization. First of all, discrimination is easier to assess because discrimination laws seek only to determine whether an individual has been treated inequitably because of his or her demographic category. Diversity is a broader concept having to do with the overall climate of an organization and its composition of mixed constituents. It is important to note that discrimination in hiring generally precludes diversity, however, lack of diversity does not necessarily indicate discrimination.…

Today 's management in the workforce is composed of all types of people verses thirty years ago when white males held a majority of upper-management positions in companies. These positions are now held by a mixture of ethnic back grounds and women who hold just as many if not more management positions then men. Just by looking at the changes in management demographics shows how important it is for people to understand cultural competency in the workplace. Dr. Roosevelt Thomas Jr. (1999) stated, "Diversity is the collective mixture of whomever we have in our workforce characterized by their differences and similarities" (p.11). Managers and supervisors must understand the characteristics of a diversity mature individual; they also need to be able to articulate the differences between affirmative action, managing diversity, understanding and valuing diversity to build skills that transforms awareness into productive and supportive workplace behaviors.…

It is important for managers to be educated on diversity, and have an understanding of the differences in their workforce’s population, because it will improve performance potential and increase employee satisfaction. There are numerous benefits to valuing diversity. Specifically, he maintains that the Immigration Act of 1965 has triggered a mass immigration consisting of migrants that are significantly different in ethnic origin from the resident population and that this migration is causing a radical change in the demographic composition of the population which will lead to a breakdown in the ties that bind the nation together. Furthermore, he suggests that this migration policy, which is designed to be free of any trace of racism or xenophobia, is not only creating an alien nation, but is doing so despite the wishes of the majority of the current resident population. The author also makes the case that immigration is, and always has been, of much less importance to American economic growth than is conventionally assumed.” (Brim low P 1995)…

Many can argue that immigration density in our population has reached its peak over the past decade. And many are right. A survey conducted in 2013 by the U.S. Census Bureau showed that about 13% of our massive 316 million U.S. resident population are foreign-born and have immigrated here from a different country. That’s roughly 1 in every 7 people, so it’s needless to say that America makes up the world’s most diverse ethnic stew. Everywhere from the hot and sunny lands of Mexico to the humid and rainy Japan, the free and opportunistic culture of the United States is a land that attracts families from all around the world, leaving its golden gates open to those who wish to thrive in the fantastic life ahead of them. Many believe that these incoming families, primarily those who produce the income, provide an extraordinary boost to our economy and pave the way for a blooming America. It is difficult to justify that immigrant families have had…

"Diversity" has become one of the most often used words of our time-- and a word almost never defined. Diversity is invoked in discussions of everything from employment policy to curriculum reform and from entertainment to politics. Nor is the word merely a description of the long-known fact that the American population is made up of people from many countries, many races, and many cultural backgrounds. All that was well known long before the word "diversity" became an insistent part of our vocabulary, an invocation, an imperative, or a bludgeon in ideological conflicts.…
