In the 1996 election between Clinton and Dole, most of the issues at hand were social instead of economical or issues regarding foreign policy leaving a lot of room for mud slinging and taking shots at one another through campaigning and commercial advertisement. In 1994 the Republicans gained control over both houses, giving them great influence over legislation. House Speaker Newt Gingrich had constructed the Republicans’ “Contract with America” which was a very conservative agenda. Clinton blamed the federal government shutting down twice due to the budget battles between the president and congress on the Republicans which also gave Clinton the opportunity to expose the Republicans extremist ambitions. The Clinton Campaign constantly emphasized the relation between Gingrich and Dole while also supporting the popular causes such as college tuition credits, the Family Leave Act, and a television rating system. Bob Dole reacted by bashing Clintons “Character” focusing on watergate, travelgate, filegate, and his campaign-finance abuse accusations.…

“Just How Stupid Are We? Facing the Truth about the American Voter,” by Rick Shenkman is a book with an eye opening experience. It was one of the best-selling books on the market in 2008 for a different look into the political issues. By Shenkman asking such a forward provoking question, it automatically catches the reader’s attention. It has you go through an immense variety of approaches and opinions. According to Shenkman, Democrats and Republicans point fingers on who’s to blame for the 2008 presidential elections. Most people think it all had to do with the “bad Bush years” in administration, but Shenkman is convinced that it is “too easy to blame our mess on Mr. Bush” (Shenkman xi). Shenkman is questioning the American voter directly; he believes that we The People should be questioned for the root of the problem. Shenkman’s explains that he has five characteristics of stupidity, but the most important are; ignorance, negligence, and how the American voter depends on myths. (Shenkman 14).…

A majority of 270 electoral votes is required to elect the President. Your state’s entitled allotment of electors equals the number of members in its Congressional delegation: one for each member in the House of Representatives plus two for your Senators. Each candidate running for President in your state has his or her own group of electors. The electors are generally chosen by the candidate’s political party, but state laws vary on how the electors are selected and what their responsibilities are. The presidential election is held every four years on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. You help choose your state’s electors when you vote for President because when you vote for your candidate you are actually voting for your candidate’s electors” (Archives). The validity of the Electoral College can be augmented against due to the questionable reliability of the qualified voters, the diminished influence of the popular vote and the disoriented accountability for each vote regarding state population. Furthermore, the Electoral College can be abducted and the popular vote can take its place. This will unite the nation and contribute to citizen awareness which would…

    CA Election

As a first time voter, I am pretty much excited and confused about the upcoming CA election. Excited because I am voting for the first time and my single vote would elect someone who would one day draw the future of Nepal. I would want to thank the Election Commission for accepting the proposal from the political parties to extend the registration deadline by a week because it helped me to enroll my name in the list, which grants power to overthrow or elect someone. As a citizen and a voter of the country, this certainly is a proud moment for me. But along with this pride and excitement also is the confusion. Confusion about whom to pass the baton that would one day portray the dreams I carry about this country, confusion about the possibility of the election taking place and confusion whether if I should really participate in this election.…
