During the scenario I attempted to do an assessment but the sister was very uncooperative and would not allow me to touch or communicate with Mr. Patience. The sister was overprotective and kept the client covered with a towel but when it slipped we noticed that the client was bruised. With each attempt to communicate with Mr. Patience the sister was becoming more vocal about her not wanting us to be there and then asked us to get off her property. Situation awareness led us to believe that this may be a case of elder abuse (Alfaro-LeFevre, 2017). We used decision making to choose between possible alternative solutions and decided to call the case manager using I-SBAR and reported our suspicion of elder abuse (Alfaro-LeFevre, 2017).
