El Sombrero Memo
El Sombrero, a third generation Las Vegas Mexican restaurant, that has been in existence for more than seventy-seven years, owned by Irma Aquirre, is being viciously attacked by the DREAMers and other Progressive groups, following a meeting between Donald Trump and twenty-nine other local Hispanic business owners hosted by Aquirre at the El Sombrero Wednesday.

As the meeting took place inside the restaurant, a small group of protesters had gathered outside of the restaurant to protest Donald Trump. The meeting with the business owners lasted for about forty-five minutes and concentrated on how to make small business grow.

In an interview with Breitbart News Aquirre explained, “the event itself was absolutely super. We had a great dialog with him and everybody that was here and that I spoke to went away feeling very positive and encouraged by a possible Trump Presidency. But we were obviously also met by protesters and some groups that were agitators that were trying to bully us and intimidate the business leaders Latino, that were here. Shame us for supporting Mr. Trump.”

It was very uncomfortable, so they had to leave out of the back door. It was pretty disgusting. They were vowing to destroy my business, and this is a business that has been here for seventy-seven years. The El Sombrero is the oldest Mexican restaurant in Nevada history. I am the third generation of American’s with Mexican heritage to own this

The Roman Catholic Church is something my family and I are familiar with. In Los Angeles I went to a co-ed Catholic school called St. Eugene. When I first picked up the book I was excited to find out the back story of the organization of Las Hermanas. “In the forefront of liberation of the Mexican American community are beautiful and courageous women, women who know how to fight,” Canciόn de Las Hermanas. That quote summarizes the movement dealing with Latina women in the Catholic Church.…

Jesus Rodriguez realized "people can be so quick to attach certain characteristics to a person's race". The characteristics we attach to minorities are they're lazy, they don't want to leave the bottom, they're slow learners, etc. With this in mind, white people in power discriminated these minorities, saying they don't belong in their universities. Many white people believed in the status quo or race at the time and opposed the ethnic protestors. But what about everyone else that eventually sided with the protestors? Especially during the 60's and 70's, people began to fight for each other's rights. The division between races between people were lessening, and the thought of a human race were expanding. They fought for their own rights and they fought for each other's rights, because they realized all minorities at the time were going through the same…

We weren’t even greeted properly, we had ask to sit in the bar area, and the hostess told us to go ahead and didn’t even take us there just pointed to where it was. I felt she was snotty and was put out by having to deal with customers. Her attitude was horrible. (pg38) My boyfriend and I are sports fans, that’s why we decided to sit in the bar area so we could watch ESPN. There weren’t that many tables in the bar about 6 total, two had dirty dishes on them and two needed washed, one was occupied so we took the only available and clean table. I didn’t understand it really, they weren’t real busy, and everyone seemed to be doing nothing for towards what customers want.(pg38) The one other table that was occupied was people who were also disturbed by the lack of professionalism that was being displayed. One guy even commented on it, I in return said “If I was the boss a lot of people would be losing their jobs tonight”. Their service delivery systems seemed to be failing tonight. (pg38)…

    Zoot Suit Riots

Mexican-Americans were highly offended when American citizens, mostly the marines and soldiers, attacked any Mexican they saw on the street wearing a zoot suit. Some of the time these Mexicans were not part of a gang, but were attacked as revenge from that August night in 1942. Police officials were watching servicemen beat the Mexicans on the street then arresting the victims, saying that they provoked the riot (La Opinion 190). After seeing that police were not taking the proper measures to fully stop these beatings, the Mexican consulate in Los Angeles said that the Embassy was awaiting orders from the Mexican government and it was possible that there would be a formal protest to the United States government (New York Times 191). Obviously, to the Mexican race, these riots and beatings are extremely unfair and are taking measures to stop them.…

Anyone who works with undocumented workers can’t deny the obvious dedication and worth ethic of their fellow employees. This dedication allows other employees to think positively about the undocumented workers. Ruth Gomberg-Muñoz states, “It is not surprising that many American workers who spend their days working alongside undocumented immigrants develop friendly relationships with them” (Gomberg-Muñoz 51). This quote is very accurate when describing the working experience with undocumented workers. Not only are they great coworkers, they are also great workers in general. At Il Vino, the restaurant that The Lions work at, the general manager describes the men as phenomenal workers and there is a unanimous agreement at Il Vino that Mexican immigrant busboys are the best workers at the restaurant (Gomberg-Muñoz 82-83). Although these men are the hardest workers around, they are only paid a low hourly salary, which does not match the effort and the work they are providing. These…

class, we saw a documentary called Farmingville, In the documentary the people talked about how they didn't want these people in their town, they didn't want to walk in fear that these people might target them. Those people! What does that mean I asked myself. Being treated differently made me who I am today. I could sit here and write about things I've never done and make myself look like someone who is amazing and very intelligent, but I'm not…

On the topic discussed on the radio channel 88.9 on “State of Nevada” was Trump’s ban on immigration. Joe Schoenmann, the radio host, along with his guest, Chris Edward, an assemblyman, has acknowledged the conflict this ban has created in the society, which causes many people to voice their frustrations and anger towards Trump and the new order he signed. The new executive order and its impact on immigration cause an uproar and the people to protest outside the airport, which has become a disturbance to many tourists and could affect Nevada’s profit in tourism. Protestors of all ages gathered at the McCarran Airport, calling the ban “un-American.” Edward expressed his opposite viewpoint to those of the many protestors by agreeing with Trump’s…
