El Chichon Research Paper
The spanish translation for the volcano name, El Chichon only means ¨THE BUMP¨. El Chichon, one of many volcanoes that have been deadly to this world. The famous caldera has an elevation of 3,773 feet, located on a convergent boundary. The volcano was considered quiet until 1982, which is now an explosive volcano. It has been said to erupt every 300 years, but there has been times when it has been overdue. Even though this volcano isn't going to erupt for another 300 years, I would not live near El Chichon because it´s dangerous, doesn't have much recreational activity and the history of the volcano has been frightful and nerve-wracking to be near. El Chichon has proved it´s danger in 1982, and even though the volcano is dormant there is still a high risk. The volcano erupted a few times before, but in one eruption, alone El Chichon killed 1,900 people. The deadly and toxic gases, along with the pyroclastic flows have done much damage to the world, and evidence today still exist. Lastly, the volcano doesn't naturally have an eruption date. Even though the eruption prediction is 300 years, the last eruption took 600 years which is double the average. El Chichon isn't as safe as you think.
