DESIGN OF THE EIFFEL TOWER
General purpose: To inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the considerations in the Eiffel Tower design.
Central Idea/ Thesis Statement:
The considerations in Eiffel tower design divided into three elements that are material, wind considerations, and artistic considerations.

Introduction
Attention gather:“Being the most striking manifestation of the art of metal structures by which our engineers have shown in Europe, it is one of the most remarkable of our modern national genius” so said by Gustave Eiffel in the his book Tour of Eiffel (1902).
Tie to the audience: Gustave Eiffel was referring to the Eiffel tower, his new marvel created, as the entrance arch to the 1889 World 's Fair
Credibility: Although have not yet reach there, I have been interested seen Eiffel tower design at television; mostly it takes as shot of in many Hollywood films.
Preview: Today, I would like to inform you about the considerations that been taken for the Eiffel Tower design that is material, wind considerations, and artistic considerations

(Transition: First of all, we start with considerations element in material)

Body I. Basic considerations that been taken is material of the tower. A. The metal structure of the Eiffel Tower weighs 7,300 tonnes while the entire structure, including non-metal components, is approximately 10,000 tonnes. B. Depending on the ambient temperature, the top of the tower may shift away from the sun by up to 18 cm (7.1 in) because of thermal expansion of the metal on the side facing the sun. C. To protect the tower from rust, maintenance of the tower includes applying 50 to 60 tonnes of paint every seven years been done. (Transition: Now, you know about material as basic element for the tower. Next, we proceed to next element, wind consideration)

II. The tower also been completed by taking wind consideration. A. The engineers give wind resistance as

The Citicorp Center , today known as the Citigroup Center, is one of the most identifiable characteristics of the New York City skyline. The story of Citicorp Center’s structural engineer, William LeMessurier is a very enlightening story in engineering ethics and very educational to every design engineer . In fact, Le Messurier inventive use and positionning of the big columns bent a "design marvel" (Hegarty) , but those very fundamentals might have been the source for a collateral disaster and engineering scandal. Capitalizing on good fortune, the ruinous end of LeMessurier’s profession was prevented and, as a substitute, his importance in the design professional society increased to new heights. In this essay we shall examine how Le Messurier failed or succeeded to abide by the legal responsibilities and the ethical codes of engineering.…

In the early 1900s Chicago continued to build palazzo-styled buildings, whereas New York City started experimenting with the tower style. Engineering developments made it easier to build and live in taller buildings. There are many iconic buildings of the time: Flatiron, Singer Tower, Metropolitan Life Insurance, and the Woolworth Building. The buildings were considered commercial successes but were coming under criticism for effect they were having on the city. The ordered skyline was no more and streets and other buildings were in continual shadows.…

The most important piece of any tower is the foundation. The legs are what support all of the weight, and would determine the success or failure of your tower. Our group foolishly decided that we would create stilts, using only paper and rubber bands to hold up the heavier plastic and cardboard materials. This lack of a solid and substantial foundation led to the dwindling of our tower.…

London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games created the need for a major regeneration and constructions programme to provide the venues and infrastructure needed to stage the games. The project was extensive, technically and politically challenging and up against a fixed deadline of July 2012. The publicly funded body established in 2006, Olympic Delivery Authority, was in charge of completing the project and turning the vision of the Games in to reality. They had to ensure that the project would;…

Before 1173 a woman left 60 coins to buy some stone for the foundation of the tower. In 1173 the construction of the tower started, but after only 5 years the tower was already on a slant due to unstable sub soil. Construction was halted for a century because of war but when it started again the builders made one wall taller than the other, this in turn led to the tower curving instead of leaning. When construction finally finished in 1372 there was also a bell tower added on top. Currently the tower stands at 55.8 metres, is comprised of 8 stories, weighs 14,700 tonnes and has 296 steps to the bell tower. In 1990 the tower was closed to the public. It is still closed to this day as it is that thought of a whole bus load of tourists might tip the tower over, this would result in lives being lost and the tower being destroyed.…

The Chinese-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei (I.M) is known as one of the greatest architects of the Twentieth Century. His long, brilliant career was highlighted by several internationally famous structures. While many of Pei's buildings were generally accepted by the public, some of them precipitated fair amounts of controversy. The most notable of these controversial structures is his Glass Pyramid at the entrance of the Louvre in Paris. For these reasons, I.M. Pei seems to be an architect who exhibits interest in the avant-garde through both the creative design and aestheticism of his architecture.…

    Tower of Pisa

When most people try to build a tower it usually falls over. Have you ever imagined a tower that leans completely on its own. Yes without falling over. I am talking about the Leaning Tower of Pisa, located in Pisa, Italy. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is an amazing landmark because of its beautiful construction, interesting history, the monuments and the location of it. You may also walk the two hundred and ninety seven steps in the tower to the top.The construction of the tower is absolutely beautiful. The construction of the Tower of Pisa took over one hundred years to complete starting in 1173 and ending 1372 due to the multiple wars and the tower leaning soon after the second floor of construction began because of the soft settling of the ground. There are two hundred and ninety seven steps inside the tower if you want to climb the tower to the top. The tower weighs about 14,500 tons, 8 stories tall and is constructed of white marble. It also has seven bells in it which are all on the top floor of the tower. Each bell represents one note of the musical major scale. The largest bell weighs more than 3,600 kg.The tower has a very interesting history. In 1950 officials of the tower stopped ringing all of the bells because they thought that the vibrations from the tower caused the tower to tilt more into the ground. In 1990 the Italian government assigned an international committee to develop a plan to protect and preserve the Tower. The tower was shifting at least 1.2 mm per year so seven hundred ton ingots were applied as counterweights. Seventy tons of Earth was also removed from around the tower which caused it to right itself by nineteen inches. The Location of the Tower of Pisa is very beautiful. It is located in the Piazza dei Miracoli (Which is Italian for the Square of Miracles) along with three other monuments. The first monument located there is the Cathedral of Pisa, which dates back to the year 1064. It has Roman, Byzamine, and Moorish architectural styles…

    The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower was built for the World Exhibition in 1889, held in celebration of the French Revolution in 1789. It took 2 years, 2 months and 5 days to complete the tower and it was inaugurated on 31 March, 1889 and was open to public from the 6th of May. Gustave designed a 984 foot open lattice, wrought iron tower that mesmerized people around the world for its aesthetic looks. The base of the tower is formed by four semi-circular arcs. These arcs were built due to Gustave 's artistic sense and by his engineering thoughtfulness. Eiffel Tower is made from pure iron, although it is a common notion that it is built of steel. Gustave used puddle iron, that is, a type of traditional wrought iron, to build a very strong tower. Gustave has designed the tower in such a way, that every worn out individual part, can be replaced easily. It is interesting to know, that the massive windstorm in 1999 damaged many Paris monuments, but no harm came to this wonder tower. .The construction was only meant to last for the duration of the Exposition, but it still stands today, despite all protests from contemporary artists who feared the construction would be the advent of structures without 'individuality ' and despite the many people who feared that this huge 'object ' would not fit into the architecture of Paris. Today, there is no such aversion anymore among the Parisians, and one could not imagine Paris without the Eiffel Tower, in fact it has become the symbol of the City of Light.…
