2.1 Compare the effectiveness of different leadership styles in different organisations (Distinction)

Leadership allows the organisation’s leaders to make the correct decisions when they’re required to do so; leadership inspires the employees of the organisation to perform to the best of their abilities. An effective leader has the ability achieve the most challenging goals, to outperform his or her competitors, and, if necessary, to take the required calculated risks in order to achieve success. To be an effective leader one must possess several different characteristics, these include: an excellent array of communication skills, being incredibly self-confident, and an acceptance to change within the business environment, differentiate between good leaders and excellent leaders (investopedia.com, n.d). A leader is someone who holds a superior position within an organisation, usually with a huge degree of control over other employees, and a huge amount of influence with the shareholders’ of the organisation (businessdictionary.com, n.d). I shall compare the effectiveness and differences between the autocratic leadership style of Apple and the participative leadership of Greggs. The participative leader believes all of his or her employee’s opinions are worthy and thus seeks to gain input and feedback from them, often basing his or her final decisions on their views and suggestions. An autocratic leader has complete control over his or her employees, allowing the autocratic leader to take an extreme transactional approach to their leadership, seeking little to no input from his or her employees, which ensures the opinion of the autocratic leader is final, regardless of the employee’s wishes and concerns. When a participative leader initiates a team project, it belongs to the entirety team as each team member will contribute equally to the competition of said project; as opposed to autocratic leadership which would see the leader uses his or her power and
