Edward Scissor Hands (Film)- Creative Task to change a scene.
My made up conversation involves the black officer and Edward. I specifically chose these two characters because of the scene where I had got confused. At the end of the film, when the black officer had let Edward escape, I thought the black officer had let Edward go because he was just too lazy to catch him. But the real reason was, because the black officer had known how Edward had felt. The black officer knew how it felt to be different because of his race. I personally thought that the film needed an extra scene where it would’ve made the audience have a better understanding; this is why I haven’t chosen this scene.

Before my made- up scene. Edward was forced to break into Jim’s house. This was so Jim could buy his own car. Jim took advantage of Edward’s ability to pick locks and break into his parent’s house.

Just as Edward opened the door to the safe, Jim and his friends locked him in, causing the alarm to go off. Kim tried to stop Jim and demanded him to head back to save Edward. Jim refused and carried Kim back into his friends Van. “GO BACK!” Kim cried. “NO! WE ARE NOT GOING BACK!” Jim replied.
Back to Jim’s house; Edward struggles to open the doorknob. The police arrives and orders Edward to come out. The door opens and Edward comes out with his scissorhand’s raised. “DROP YOUR WEAPONS!” the black officer ordered. Edward has no weapons, the police officers did not know that Edward had scissors as hands. “DROP YOUR WEAPONS! THIS IS YOUR LAST WARNING BEFORE WE SHOOT YOU!” The officers prepared to shoot Edward.
The neighbours came out, shocked at what Edward has done. “No! No! He has scissors as hands!” Marge, one of the neighbours hesitantly explained.

Tim burton uses many techniques that reflect him as an auteur. Uses clothing’s and colour to juxtapose characters, give them meaning and set a mood. He uses significant turning points to give the character a meaning. There’s contrast between Edwards house and the suburbs to show the differences between Edward and the citizens, and uses themes like prejudice and conformity to show it was a normal suburb for the 1950’s to 60’s.…

A camera, a director, an actor is all one needs to make a movie, that may be something the audience believes. There’s a science to this, camera angles, sound, and lighting/color that make up a movie. As a film director in Hollywood, Tim Burton must pay attention to these simple key factors that create his films. Tim Burton, a greatly respected film director, creates gothic, bittersweet films ranging from friendship to young love. As Burton inspired many, he himself was inspired by the author Edgar Allan Poe, whose grim side is reflected in his writing. He was also inspired by the American actor, Vincent Price, who played dark characters on screen since the early 1940s. The dark, unusual crazy, quirky characters and settings are reflected well…

The first idea that Burton expressed was the great love Edward had for Kim, but with the influence of others their love became too difficult. Edward fell so deeply in love with Kim, that he was willing to do ANYTHING for her. Edward helped Jim and Kim break into Jim’s home even though he knew it was wrong. When Kim asked Edward why he willingly helped them, Edward replied, “Because you asked me to.” Edward showed how much he loved Kim by the way he considered the consequences if he were to physically be with her. “Hold me,” Kim asked, but Edward knew that if he did, there would be a possibility that he would hurt her with his scissorhands, so he answered, “I can’t.” Edward’s love for Kim was also shown through his actions of wanting to protect Kim. Edward fought to protect Kim from Jim who constantly hurt her physically as he booted her off him with his foot, yanked her away from Edward and had put her life in danger by his reckless actions of wanting to kill Edward. Edward’s only way of stopping Jim from hurting Kim and himself was to kill him. Jim made it impossible for Edward and Kim to be together because of his…

How are we made aware of the filmmaker's attitude towards change? Refer to three specific episodes from the film. (excl. concl. stages)In Pleasantville, the filmmaker, Gary Ross, conveys his attitude towards change through the characters of David and Jennifer who are transported into the 1950s sitcom "Pleasantville". He doesn't necessarily demonstrate change to bear a positive result; rather, he addresses that change is essential to the development of society and self and that it is important to understand and accept change. Ross contrasts the ignorance and mindlessness of the unchanged people of Pleasantville with the hunger for knowledge that the changed (or coloured) people possess, communicating to the viewer that change and knowledge go hand in hand.…

Edward Scissorhands, a film directed by Tim Burton, contains many allusions to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Both stories are centered on the creation of life and the difficulties that the one who was created must face as a result. However, Frankenstein is entirely composed of Gothic elements, while Burton chooses to sharply contrast Gothic elements with those of modern suburban life. In Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton satirizes the conformity of American suburbanism, which is counter to many ideas popular during the Gothic period.…

In this shot we see the mysterious character always accompanied by ominous music (non-diegetic sound). Mid shot of the main group of characters contrasts the long shot of the character in purple. The door frame also frames this character. In combination, these film techniques reveal a mysterious character and mood within the beginning 20 minutes of the movie. This suggests/foreshadows to the viewers/audience that this character may have a dark/negative impact on the story as a whole (in particular Edward Scissorhands).…
