Edward O Wilson Research Paper
An evolutionist by the name of Edward O. Wilson was the creator of the term sociobiology. He defined it as being “the systematic study of the biological basis of all social behavior [that is] a branch of evolutionary biology and particularly of modern population biology” (Criminology Today). After being developed, sociobiology became a new paradigm in theoretical perspectives and criminological theories. Its main concepts were: altruism/survival of the gene pool, tribalism, and territoriality. Wilson claimed that the main determinant of human behavior was the need to ensure the survival of genes from one generation to the next. He also believed that territoriality explained human conflicts such as homicide and warfare, and used this to expand
