Introduction
"There is music in the air, music all around us, the world is full of it and you simply take as much as you require." That is one thing that, English composer, Edward Elgar once said. Edward Elgar has had a big impact on orchestral music and music in general. Elgar was determined throughout his life and he made his dreams and visions come true. Edward Elgar is a very inspirational figure in music.
Youth
Edward William Elgar was born on June 2, 1857 to a middle-class family in Broadheath, Worcestershire. His father, William Henry Elgar, owned a piano shop where he would tune pianos and his mother, Ann Greening Elgar, stayed home and worked as a homemaker. Some people that did influence him were Richard Wagner, Johannes Brahms, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, and César Franck. Edward Elgar’s first work as a conductor was when he conducted for a band called “Worcester and Country Lunatic Asylum” in 1879 for five years. He also played the violin and the bassoon. Elgar created many choral works for choirs. His most popular choral work is “The Dream of Gerontius.” Other popular works from him are the Enigma Variations which were two symphonies and concertos for violin and …show more content…
As a result, Edward’s inspiration to compose music went away. In the 1920s, Elgar became retired because of his depression. He went on to live as a normal man in Worcestershire with his dogs. In 1928, he was created Knight Commander of the Victorian Order. He then started to work on projects like The Spanish Lady which was an opera and a third symphony. He also flew to Paris to conduct his violin concerto in 1933. Sadly though, in October, Edward Elgar was diagnosed with a Colorectal Cancer and died on February 23, 1934 at the age of 76 in
