Differentiated Instruction expands learning for all students with diversities. Successful approaches will not be in today’s classrooms, if teachers’ incorporate one size fit all into instructional learning time. There are many different backgrounds that are consolidated into our classroom schools; with various different learning styles and needs, that of family backgrounds, and social and socioeconomic differences. As differentiated instruction can be an individual approach to flexibility, it will help teachers’ with formative evaluations; as well as good adaptable student grouping, and having students’ choices become more instructional engaged and driven, according to Gardner, H. (2003).…

Teaching and educational psychology are key elements in having a a successful classroom. Taking the Ormrod’s Psychology Survey really shows how there are many common misbeliefs to how children learn. Ormrod’s text stresses the importance of understanding research. “Quantitative research yields information that is inherently numerical in nature or can be easily reduced to numbers” (Ormrod, J. 2011. p 4). Qualitative research “research that yields information that cannot be easily reduced to numbers; typically involves an in-depth examination of a complex phenomenon.” (Ormrod, J. 2011. p 4). When an educator understands different ways that information is gathered and explored then they are able to further explore their study of their students behavior. The most important thing as a student of education is that there is the ability to merge the information from quantitive research and qualitative research. Theories in education are exciting possibilities that can be examined and explored. There are millions of different possibilities as far as theories that are related to our students: motivation, behavior, development and learning. To successfully teach, understanding why and how our students preform is key. In the classroom we must continually assess our on students work and then develop methods to help students improve.…

    Formal Curriculum Assessment

Every year as new students enter school they wonder what they will learn. As the student enters the room on the first day of school the teacher has her room precisely decorated and has all of her lesson plans clearly defined. Although the student has no idea, these lesson plans where designed specifically for his/her every need before he even stepped into that classroom. Every year the curriculum for Louisiana schools is determined long before the student ever arrive, but what exactly is the curriculum and what does it do for each student individually? The curriculum in schools today has been defined in many different ways; this is primarily due to the fact that most everyone has an opinion on how and what the curriculum of our students should be. When curriculum is ordinarily defined there are usually words like study and planned activities that arise, but there is more to it than just that. The curriculum that our students are given should be more than just homework and tests, it should also continue outside of the classroom. Although this could seem a bit uncouth, it can be planned out and individualized for students. Making sure that the curriculum is planned out for individuals is another major part of the curriculum being a success. The specific curriculum that is planned out for students should also always be clearly defined within their content level and for the students’ specific learning ability. And finally a classes curriculum should follow the curriculum with others classes throughout the state, ensuring that all students are given the same opportunities to learn.…

This review summarizes key principles of differentiated instruction, the methodology used in executing the research, successes and drawbacks, the impact, along with my personal opinion on this philosophy based on my readings of other articles of similar content. This study was performed by various educational professionals of the University of Trinidad and Tobago. The research served to decipher whether there was any association between the use of differentiated instruction in the Curriculum Studies course and the performance of students; mainly prospective educators, over a single semester period. The students’ perceptions of the use of this strategy/philosophy were also recorded, and whether their exposure to this type of instruction would influence their teaching and learning strategies in their potential classroom environments. The results were published in an article for the International Journal of Higher Education dated the 22nd June, 2013.…
