Edgar Allan Poe, a very successful artist experienced a very memorable life where his beginnings started in Richmond Virginia. To begin with, Poe was an American author, poet, editor, and literary critic considered a part of the American Romantic Movement. In addition, Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story and is considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre. Lastly, he was the first well-known American writer to try to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career. However Poe’s life in Richmond, Virginia had a profound pull on him.
Edgar Allan Poe was officially born in Boston, Massachusetts he was orphaned young when his mother, Elizabeth Arnold Poe, died shortly on December 8, 1811 after his father abandoned the family and he was left alone at age two. In sequence, two days later Poe was taken in by Frances and John Allan however they never officially adopted him. Moreover, Frances and John Allan were very prominent and wealthy merchants of the town. Finally, Poe was elated because of his courteous and wealthy family, but he knew something was missing from his life, which was love. Poe spent the most important and impressionistic times of his life – years that passed him from childhood to adolescence and to his transition of adulthood.
