The emergence of short stories in the 19th century was due to the absence of avant-garde short story writers and historical events that postponed this movement. In the 1700s, novels were very popular and many people did not grasp the concept of the short story yet. Many writers who would go on to perfect the short stories were either very young or had not been born yet like Jorges Borges, Faulkner, and Neale Zora Hurston. The most prominent author who began to craft the schematics of short stories was Edgar Allen Poe. Poe`s detail to the art of short story writing has given him the title of the greatest innovator.
