The first military draft in the United States was shortly after the Iraq war. This draft was started by Senator Ernest Hollings and Representative Charles Rangel. There were a lot of people for the military draft but there were also a lot of people against it. The people that were for the draft concluded that it was a good thing for the United States. They said that there was different ways that you could get out of it but why would you want to do that when you could fight for your country in their worst times of need? These people say that the people that usually volunteer for the military more than likely come from a low income household. Therefore the people that is for the draft say that it is mainly made up of people who needed shelter, food, clothing, and even a steady income.
People that are against the draft argue that being in the military should be voluntary. They say that most people already have a steady income and are living a decent life, if they were to be drafted then it would mess up their whole career better yet, their lives. They argue that preventing individuals form choosing their careers an proceeding in what they like to do limits their freedom and harms the ones that already have their life planned out. These people that were against the draft were more educated and trained to defend themselves and may have even came from a bad home life and just want to make something of themselves.
In my own opinion I think that a draft is a great idea. I think that individuals should be excited about applying for a draft or even waiting to see if they have been called to defend their country. Going in the military gives you everything you need and all that you have to do is fight for your countries freedom. You would receive shelter, food, clothing, a place to sleep, and you would even be getting paid for it. Isn’t this what everyone dreams for? Everything is being handed over to you for nothing but your pride for your country. The draft is also a good
