5 Paragraph Essay on “the Happiest Day of My Life”
By The Wisdom Post on November 14, 2012 in Essay
Life is truly unpredictable. Some days are very good, some days are ok, some are bad, some days are boring and full of irritation and some days are truly magical and mesmerizing. These beautiful and magical days of our life make life worth living. Even the remembrance of those beautiful and happy days brings a smile on our face. One such day of my life was 31st December 2010. It was the happiest day of my life.
That time my Christmas Holiday was going on and I went for shopping with my mother to a shopping mall. There at the entrance of the mall was a man who was selling lottery tickets, the gifts for prize winners were also unique- first prize was a car and a special card with which one could shop up to one lakh at the same shopping mall, second prize was a ten day holiday trip to Europe with family and Rs. 50,000 cashes and the third prize were 3 days Goa trip and Rs 25,000 cash.
I don’t know why but my sixth sense told me I have better chances of winning the first prize, so I ask my mother to get a lottery ticket for me. At first my mother was reluctant to buy the ticket, but later on she agreed when I continually irritated her by my requests and kept on saying her please, please, please all the time! After purchasing the lottery ticket, I came to know that the winners will be announced today itself. And when I inquired about the time of the announcement they said within half an hour the winner will be declared. Luckily I was last person buying the ticket, as after that the counter was closed.
While my mother was busy shopping, I was waiting for the announcement of the winners and visualized my name being announced as the first prize winner. It was truly a magical moment when my name was announced as the first prize winner within half an hour. Neither I nor my mother could believe it. We both were ecstatic. It was really the most beautiful moment of my

Today is my twenty third lottery. My mother was chosen in the third lottery I ever attended. I never really new her, but people say she was a great person. Ever since I learned of her being stoned because of the lottery, I have been protesting against the lottery. Even though I am against the lottery I still have to attend, because if I don't, the other villagers will choose me automatically. Three years ago, when I was twenty, Old Man Warner was chosen in the lottery. It's ironic how people change right before they die. He was one of the only ones that kept the tradition alive, but in the end he was yelling about how all of this wasn't right, how the crops would be fruitful even if he wasn't sacrificed.…

I was sitting backstage waiting to be called back up for crowning to get it over with and get out of the very uncomfortable dress. Finally they called the contestants back on stage. I stood at the very end of the contestant line. The first award the announced was Miss Congeniality, the announcer spoke into the microphone and stated Morgan Nobbe as the winner of the award. They placed a sash on my shoulder and continued on with the award ceremony. Next was second runner up and first runner up and like in sports I applauded for the winners. Finally it was down to the big award, the one that everyone had wanted. I stood there thinking I got Miss Congeniality and one of the older girls would win but was happy I was not going home empty handed and I had something to show that I stepped out of my comfort zone. The announcer began to announce the winner of the pageant and I was ready to clap but then the unthinkable happened, the announcer said my name. I am pretty sure that I went into shock when Miss Tree City 2013 was placing the crown on my head. Who would have thought that a short farm girl would win a…

The sole purpose of the lottery is a theme not directly answered throughout the short story. However the motif of tradition revolves around the course of the lottery triggering debates on whether some controversial traditions should be changed or even abolished. Our forefathers created many traditions around the world centuries ago, which leaves less debate on whether these traditions are ethical. The effects of these traditions leave sometimes damaging legacies on our behaviour as humans. In “The Lottery”, the effects of their tradition had deadly and disastrous results for the community, taking the life of one of its members. When reflecting on the consequences of the lottery, we come to question how our own traditions influence our behaviour. Some traditions such as Thanksgiving and Christmas revolve around the idea of giving, and being benevolent to all. In…
