We live in a society where the family has become so dysfunctional that it is difficult to describe what is normal. The traditional family that was once the core foundation and stabilizing force of our society no longer exist. Dysfunctional families are a rapidly growing part of our society. It can be linked to childhood neglect amongst other things (Davidson and Janca, 2017). Criminal profiling attempts to connect what characteristics drive a family to dysfunction (Davison and Janca, 2017). In a dysfunctional family, children have to learn at an early age how to protect themselves and problem-solve in order to survive (Davison and Janca, 2017).
