dse english compo about PE lessons
There is talk of certain schools removing PE lessons from the curriculum so students can concentrate more on academic subjects. Write a letter to the secretary of Education expressing your views on this proposal.

Dear sir/madam,

Recently, whether PE lessons should be kept within curriculum has become the talk of the town. It has been suggested that PE lessons should be removed from the curriculum in order to let students concentrate more on academic subjects. I do not agree with this proposal and I am going to express my views in the following.

To begin with, PE lessons are important, if nit significant, to students’ physical health. Nowadays, students are busy with their schoolwork. When they have time, they may have to go to tutorial schools or attend extra lessons. As a result, many students do not spend time on doing sports. Only through PE lessons can students have some exercises. Moreover, exercises can increase the learning efficiency of students. Therefore, it is undoubted that PE lessons should be kept.

Furthermore, PE lessons can make students feel relaxed. The learning atmosphere in Hong Kong is very stressful. Students may have huge burdens on their shoulders and need to fight for a place to study in university. In order to further their studies, they have to work around the clock and bury themselves into their studies. Having PE lessons is one of the ways to make students feel relaxed. During exercises, our body will produce a ‘happy’ hormone called Endorphins which can make people feel happy and less stressed. Together with the support of schoolmates, students can become motivated again and their academic results can be boosted. Therefore, having PE lessons is conducive to students.

Last but not least, Students mat get sick easily if PE lessons are removed from the curriculum. Having enough exercises can strengthen our immune system as mentioned before, most if the students lack time to do exercises. Having PE lessons is the only way they can exercise. If PE lessons are removed, students may get sick easily. Consequently, students’ academic result may be affected by skipping lessons at school. Having PE lessons can lower the chance of being sick. Therefore, PE lessons are crucial for students.

All in all, removing PE lessons from the curriculum does more harm than good to students. I believe that the health of students is of the utmost importance. Without a healthy body, having excellent academic performance is useless.

Yours faithfully, Chris Wong

or many years, athletics have improved junior’s well-beings and their schooling, but some academies have been thinking of getting rid of these programs all together. The two articles mentioned that school should keep or get rid of sports. One is written by Amanda Ripley while the other Tim O’Shei. Both have good arguments yet Tim’s article provides more positive undertones and uses of sports. Therefore physical education should stay in schools because It helps improve children’s grades and health, equal opportunities are given to students that didn’t exercise before, AND athletic careers can open for people who play competitive games early in their lives.…

“About 40% of public schools have already cut, or plan on cutting recess from their school day” (Education Reporter, 1). Along with that more and more schools are now taking away physical education classes to make more time for math, reading, and writing. The main concern with taking these out of schools is that it will contribute to the rising issue of childhood obesity. Also, children benefit from short recess breaks throughout the day in many different ways. The last reason recess and P.E. should be required is that physical activity is a very important part of the development of a young child. Academics and test scores are important; however educators must look out for the health and well-being of every child. I believe that recess and physical education class should not be taken out of schools; they should be required as part of every day curriculum.…

Physical educational professionals should be demonstrating and a model of what they teach. Physical educators should value wellness and fitness and continue to do so throughout their respected careers. One professor suggests that the lack of skill and in depth activity content knowledge is a major problem in (PETE) programs and for the future of the physical education profession. There are two major factors that can be credited to this dilemma. The first factor is being an increase emphasis in major curriculums on classroom oriented theory and models at the expense of quality activity and the second factor is the lack of both tactile expertise and skills in many teachers. There is a wide variety of areas that physical educators should have knowledge of which includes the fundamental motor skills, individual and dual activities, team sports, aquatics, gymnastics, and educational dance. These skills are an essential part of the preparation of a physical educator. Every student that is studying to be a physical educator should be able to walk the walk not just talk the talk in other words be a role model for their students.…
