Drugs Control Lives The long lasting effects on drugs can be destructive. Once you’ve become hooked on drugs they can make you do things you never thought would happen. It always starts out just wanting to try it to see what it does to you, but usually once you’ve started it becomes a habit. A habit that you start having no control over, and before you know it you’ve lost everything that was important to you. People I know have become victims to drugs and it is sad to see the outcome from choosing drugs to rule your life. Because of drug use, people hurt their family emotionally and financially, start stealing or committing crimes to provide for their habit, and it can also negatively influence their children. Drugs not only effect family and close friends, but also negatively impact the community they live in as well. As a result of drug-addiction’s, the first thing that usually gets impacted is your family. My cousin had a really bad addiction over the past four years. “I was so messed up all of the time that I didn’t see the pain I was causing my family. I let my addiction run my life and lost everything that was most important to me.”(Willingham 2013). Drugs make you oblivious to what is really going on around you. They take control of your life and turn you into an angry unpredictable monster; they make you feel as if you can’t operate without them. You can become mentally, if not physically, abusive towards your spouse, and it can create a lot of tension in your relationship. “When drug use becomes a larger part of your life, your relationships suffer. Conflict and breakdowns in communication can become more common.”(ReachOut.com 2013). When you become addicted you don’t care about anyone around you; all you worry about is how you are going to get money to get your “fix”.
