Drug smugglers shouldn’t be given a death penalty in Asian countries.
Good morning, honorable judges, teachers and fellow peer. Even though drug smuggling is considered to be a serious issue around the world, a death penalty shouldn’t be given. This isn’t necessary or an effective method to stop it from happening or continuing. Now, I am going to tell you why.
Drugs like heroine, cocaine, crack and ecstasy are highly addictive and narcotic, however it’s imported and sold everyday through drug smuggling. It’s mainly produced in poor developed countries like Colombia because it’s very inexpensive way of making a high profit to neighboring developed countries like America. Therefore, people are willing to risk of drug smuggling because of their poor situation in life. Many people in developed countries are willing to pay a high price for drugs because of their want for the effect of excitement. However, the downside effect of extreme depression takes place after the excitement is lost. This affects the society and personal life in a negative way.
Now, you might start to think, if it’s such a serious problem, why won’t you kill the person who smuggled it out of the country. The main reason is that it doesn’t stop or discourage other criminals from doing it again from the same source and only convinces them to be more alert of the situation. However, in poor countries like Africa, it’s reasonable to give a death penalty because it’s very expensive to keep criminals in prison. However, in developed countries like American and Canada, a death penalty is not allowed because it is considered to be a very inhuman act. In other words, it is very difficult to measure if the death penalty does stop the problem; therefore it isn’t a good idea to rely on the death penalty to stop the drug smuggling.
