There once was this boy whose name was Kyler. He had never had pizza in his whole life. This one time his friend Kolt brought pizza for lunch. Kyler asked what it was he had in his lunchbox. Kolt told him it was pizza. Kyler interrogated what pizza was. Kyler’s question was bizarre to Kolt because pizza was popular in his town. Kolt wasn’t really that hungry and gave it to Kyler, but Kyler was a little scared to try it. The bell rang and lunch was over. I am on the rough turf with the ball in my hands and blue cleats in my peripheral vision. In that moment, all I could hear were the voices in my head yelling "no". My position as goalie contradicts many of my human instincts. The voices tell me not to sacrifice my body to save a shot, but I have been trained to do so. Anxiousness fills my body as I hit the ground, but relief overcomes my mind when I feel the ball inside my palms. The details of this image are a blur. I can only remember where this took place and when. The people in the image are only a vague memory, but the emotions are, oh, so real. Some moments will be forgotten, but the feelings in that moment will always be remembered.…

I went into my junior spring soccer season kind of sad, my past coach, wasn't going to be our team coach this year. I wasn't really depressed though, because I had tons of friends that were playing this year. One of the great things about spring club soccer is that it is not a school-sanctioned sport. To me this said that I was able to play another season of soccer with my friends from other schools around the state without the normal High School rivalry between us. Year after year, the schools pulled pranks on each other, sometimes nothing big, but sometimes something big. I remember my freshman or sophomore year, when a few guys I knew went over to Elkins and put up “ESE” signs all over the commons. When they walked in to school the next day and the lights came on, the signs and blue and white shot all over the room. They were extremely angry, which is why it was such a good prank.…

We see animals every day. They are our pets, companions, and, to some, family. They are also our dinner, new jacket or bag, and the pain behind our household products. So when does it qualify as cruel, or even inhumane? What is animal cruelty? According to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) “Intentional cruelty, or abuse, is knowingly depriving an animal of food, water, socialization, or veterinary care. Maliciously torturing, maiming, or killing an animal.” Three major examples of animal cruelty today are found in the food industry, shelters, and testing facilities.…

We decided at this point, it was only necessary to explore as much of downtown St. Augustine as we could. Our first stop was a walk by the Matanzas River. From the sidewalk by the river, there was a magnificent view of the Castillo de San Marco; St. Augustine’s fort; and all of the white lights that decorated the city. As we came to the end of the sidewalk, we looked at the glistening water and felt the…
