Dreaming Of Heroes Analysis
In Amy Tan’s novel, “ The Joy Luck Club “ jing-mei had to play the piano and she really didn't want to but her mom made her. In Bissinger’s book “ Dreaming Of Heroes “ Mike’s dad pushed him so hard to be good at sports and to stay away from drugs so that he could be the best. Both sets of parents just want the very best for their kid even though the kids sometimes don't see this. The kids can only tell that their parents are pushing them to do better and better. They know that they have to be the best that they can to make their parents proud of them. In Amy Tan’s novel “ The Joy Luck Club,” and in Bissinger’s novel “ Dreaming Of Heroes,” there are examples of expectations. In the Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, Jing-Mei was supposed to be a child prodigy according to her mother. In the novel her mother says to her, “ Of course you can be a prodigy, too.” (Amy Tan pg, 132) Jing-Mei’s mother expected her to be a prodigy and Jing-Mei wanted to be for a while until her mother made her do work all the time. This is similar to Bissinger’s novel “ Dreaming Of Heroes” When Billy wanted his son Mike to live out the dream of baseball. He knew that the pitchers were about to get harder and the home runs were not going to come as easily to Mike anymore. Billy knew

Bissinger says this when he wrote “ Mike lost that innate confidence in himself. “ ( Bissinger pg. 75 ) Basically the same thing happened in Amy Tan’s novel, “ The Joy Luck Club “ when Jing-Mei stopped being confident because she couldn’t do the things that her mother wanted her to do.
