ARE MOBILE PHONES A CURSE OR A BOON?

Many people believe that mobile phones are a boon. While others, believe that they are more of a curse. Most people from every different age groups and all walks of life own a mobile phone in this era. It has also become increasingly affordable that one could own a mobile phone for a very cheap price. Mobile phones has started to be a part of our daily life as they help us become faster and more efficient in nearly everything we do. Their compact size has also made them highly attractive and portable for everybody to carry around. However, there are some people who claim that mobile phones have become the root of many evils in our society today. In my opinion, I strongly believe that mobile phones are more of a boon than a curse. Mobile phones help us in our daily life. That much is true; when we have to research information for our school projects and our computers are unavailable. We would be able to look up the information on our mobile phones with the help of public Wi-Fi or a personal hotspot your friend has on his smartphone. When we have an appointment we need to attend to, we can easily make a schedule in our mobile phones to remind us so that we will not forget. If we are not at home and a family member or friend wishes to contact us for either an emergency or a chat, they will be able to get ahold of us through our mobile phone. When we are lost, we will be able to find our way around with the installation of google maps in our mobile phones. Furthermore, mobile phones are useful in several emergencies. If we ever come across an elderly citizen collapsed on the side of the road, we will be able to call an ambulance in a short amount of time to ensure the elderly citizen makes it to the hospital in time. Another situation where it may come to be helpful is, if we ever witness a bank robbery in the making and all the citizens are held hostage on the inside, we will be able to save them by informing the police with the help of our mobile phones. That way, we might be able to prevent anybody from getting hurt. However, people may argue that mobile phones are more of a curse. Some of those people feel that mobile phones are not healthy for the mind as they are easily made a distraction for young teenagers who bring their mobile phones to school. Some students who bring their mobile phones to school, might not be able to concentrate during lesson as they could possibly be checking messages they receive during class or they could be surfing the net with the help of their personal hotspot.

Why people would not consider a man as a woman or vice versa? Men and women are distinct by many ways: different mind-set, different physiological functions as well as characteristics, and so on. Those differences become obstacles between sexes, bonding them together but also separating them apart. One of the obstacles is derived from their different mind-set, which ultimately turns out to numerous difficult conversations between men and women. “Hills like White Elephant,” written by Ernest Hemingway, is a short story mainly composed by a dialogue between a man and a girl. The conversation, which is an argumentative talk, between them is hard and futile because neither of them achieves their goals.…

The concept of Belonging is the idea of being part of something and feeling accepted. Often individuals have differences that can create feelings such as seclusion and isolation from people and places. This sense of alienation is shown throughout Tim Winton’s short stories ‘Big World’ and ‘Aquifer’ from a collection entitled “The Turning” and also from the Tropfest short film “Missing Her” directed by Micheal Weisler. Both Winton and Weisler, use literary and visual techniques to explore the ideas and feelings of belonging and not belonging.…

Cell phones come in handy during an emergency. First, if someone is driving and lands into an accident, most cars don’t have the “GM on star” button so they are most likely to use their cell phone to get help. Anyone can dial 911, and get the help they need in just a matter of seconds. Whereas if someone didn’t own a cell phone it would be very difficult to get help as fast. There are times where someone can be in a very critical situation where if they do not get the help they need as soon as possible they could potentially die. For example, if someone’s head got cracked open during the car accident they would immediately need help from the paramedics. Also, if there is an urgent situation, where you believe there is someone following you for example, and your life is in danger then cell phones are there as a tool. One can easily contact the police or a family member to seek help, and save their life. In contrast, if someone did not have a phone then the “stalker” has a better chance of getting a hold of you. It will make it hard for someone to escape a situation like this. Thirdly, cell phones also come in handy when you forget to inform your parents or friends about any new event coming up. For example, unexpectedly you have to stay after school to finish a test, and your mom and dad are not aware of it. Then you can use your cell phone to let them know. Overall, cell phones can be realistic in times of an emergency.…
