HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLINESS: Mr. Barua is a 42 year old gentleman from Bangladesh who presents with chest tightness, shortness of breath, and tachycardia. Dr. J.K McClean of cardiology is evaluating his heart condition. The patient has had the recent onset of hemoptysis. He was treated for tuberculosis in Bangladesh 15 years ago. This has prompted the concern of weather his treatment of tuberculosis was adequate or if weather there is another cause of his hemoptysis. The duration of his tuberculosis treatment was apparently adequate, according to his wife. But no records are available. In addition, the patient had thrombosis of the axially artery treated last year at Hillcrest. He had an embolectomy and has been on Coumadin since. INR is significantly elevated at 16. None the less, because of the cavitary lesions that are seen in the right and left upper lobes, the possibility of tuberculosis has been raised. Ancillary history was been given by the wife, Nupaul, with the patient translating for her from the Indie language.…
UCM: CPSW called Ms. Sadia to schedule a home visit and to discuss about her UA's and the updated therapy she had mentioned during the last home visit. Ms. Sadia stated that she has called the therapy and still waiting a phone call from her therapy to schedule an appointment. CPSW reminded Ms. Sadia that she needs to start a therapy asap and she needs to fallow her case plan. Ms. Sadia seemed to be reluctant and requires reminders about her case plan and what needs to be completed. She has not been cooperative with the department's goal and belive that the case is opened because of her case and she has done nothing to children. CPSW did a therapy referral for Ms. Sadia even though Ms. Sadia stating that she will be scheduling a therapy since…

With the modern world’s hyper-sensitive awareness of race and gender and religion and sexual preferences and politics and, well, everything, making a few misplaced generalizations is inevitable. Although stereotyping can be false and misleading, it does not have the same implications that actively discriminating has.…
It is nearly impossible to avoid inheriting at least some of the racial, gender, and sexual-orientation biases that are inevitable within a society that privileges Whites, men and heterosexuals. Sue (2010) explains that racism exists on a continuum of conscious awareness. While biases can be displayed overtly through conscious and deliberate acts of discrimination, bias is more likely to occur in the form of unconscious, unintentional, and subtle discriminatory behaviours. Sue (2010) argues that this ambiguity makes microaggressions more harmful to the well-being and self-esteem of victims than overt discrimination. Victims must continually question, react to and interpret the meaning of these experiences on a daily basis (Sue,…
Prejudice is one of the plights of that afflicts mankind. It has shown itself throughout history in many different forms however none as often as racial prejudice. Race has been something that has been studied for centuries. In the early 1800’s scientists believed that one’s race would affect mental capacity as well as how able people are able to complete certain tasks. Race was also used to determine a person’s status in society in many parts of the world. The lasting effects of these beliefs in race have created a culture of racial prejudice. There are two types of prejudice, explicit and implicit prejudice. These two types of prejudice are extremely different however they offer very applicable data for employers and in learning about how…
Anderson and Zuercher (2001) observe that “There are three kinds of racism: individual, institutional, and indirect” (p. 10). The authors examine each type of racism and share their viewpoints with each other through a series of letters written to each other. This earnest and affectionate correspondence illustrates the differences in perception between cultural groups about race relations and discrimination. The two authors, who befriended each other at a church sponsored singles group, present their individual perspectives on racial discrimination. David Anderson, senior pastor at a multi-cultural church is African-American, and Brent Zuercher, a certified…

As a woman of color and member of the LGBT+ community, I have experienced prejudice in various, intimate forms. As patriotic as I am, I cannot help but feel sorrow at the injustices in our society. I possess hope for the future that conditions will better for all peoples in our country. My conviction is that the first step to acquiring social justice is erasing ignorance. Importance lies in recognizing the signs of institutionalized injustice. In relation to the well known idiom "ignorance is bliss," the bliss of the ignorant rests upon the unjust treatment of those suffering oppression. On the other hand, the oppressed may also be ignorant of their oppression as a deliberate means to keep them oppressed when they could be…
All of this information has caused me to take a close look at myself and my upbringing, to see if there are any changes that I can make to better understand those that I know not understand instead of prejudging and stereotyping based upon false information from other discrimination.…
