On November 9th, 2017 the International Olympic Committee announced that they have banned four Russian cross-country skiers from participating in future Olympic competitions due to doping allegations. Doping is the act of using banned athletic performance-enhancing drugs by athletes to get ahead in competition. Yuliia Ivanova, Alexey Petukhov, Evgeniya Shapovalova, and Maksim Vylegzhanin were found guilty of using banned drugs in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
