The book Donnie Brasco: My Undercover Life in the Mafia talks about Joseph D. Pistone life as an undercover agent in the mob. This book start off by Joseph posing as a jewel theft named Donnie and Benjamin “Lefty Guns” Ruggierro trying to sell a diamond. Then the book moves to Lefty showing Donnie how to act around the mob and introducing to people by say “This is a friend of mine”. With Lefty introducing Donnie as an associate to the mob he became well like and moved up in the mob quickly. After the mob boss Rubout died one of Lefty best friends Sunny Black gained control of Brooklyn. As Donnie moved up in the mob he evenly became a “made man” by Sunny when he introduced him to people as a “friend of ours”. In the end Joseph Pistone undercover work was successful and lead to new information about the mob and many convictions. Throughout the book Pistone talked about many struggles that come with undercover work that is often over looked. One of the struggles was Pistone family and marriage was taking a turn for the worse during the undercover work. In start Pistone was fallowing everything that the FBI wanted and was checking in often. It wasn’t until when Lefty family started having problems that he felt sorry for some people in the mob. As the book continues and Pistone became like family to the mob he start to check in less and less. When Pistone got to the end of the investigation he did not want to see Lefty locked up or died and he try to tell him to run. Pistone was even going to buy Lefty a boat with his own money, so Lefty could run away. In the end the FBI ended the investigation and caught lefty before he had a chance to
