Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land The first thing that went through my mind once the movie started was that I was going to have no idea what Donald Duck was saying. His first couple of quotes I could barely understand but thankfully there was the “spirit” narrating. Also I was slowly able to understand what Donald Duck was saying. After that I became very interested in the rest of the movie starting with Pythagoras and the way he created music. I never really thought about music and math being that connected but the more they went on about the division of the string and how they are just fractions of the largest one, the more it started making sense. Also when Donald came in beating the drum the musicians starting tapping their feet faster to keep up with the tempo of the drums. Another concept I thought was interesting was the pentagram Pythagoras and his friends used. One could break it down into 4 different lengths. And if you added up the different lengths they were equal to the largest single length. Also that the pentagram can keep repeat itself by drawing it inside the center pentagram. The pentagram is kind of like Pascal’s triangle in the way that has many hidden secrets. Then there was the golden rectangle that everyone was crazy about. I don’t know if this was before the tables had holes or if it’s just another type of billiards game but I never knew how the diamonds on the sides were used. I always thought they were just decorations on the tables. They explained that first you had to find the angle to hit the target and number it 1,2,3,4, etc., but then the next angle would different and numbered 1, 1 ½, 2, 2 ½, etc. You subtract the two numbers and get where to aim at. It was all very interesting and I definitely plan on using it next time I play billiards. Maybe I will start to win some
