Video Report 1

1. Dominos started with sticking with core strategy in the US. But when trying to move into different countries, they realized that it was not as easy as they thought to just move into a culture and expect people to change for them. They found out the hard way that this was not the solution. So they decided to mend themselves into the culture. Dominos ensures that its corporate values and strategies are used by all franchises by operating their business consistently throughout the world. They start with the front appearance. All Dominos has a similar front exterior and similar on the inside. A customer would see that the operations are the same internationally as the operations in the Unites States. They kept their operations simple around the world, which ensures that their operations will stay the same to each franchise.

2. Marketing Mix adjustments are always needed when trying to keep up with customer changes. Opportunity offers prospects for improving the situation. Changes in consumers’ tastes have increased the demand for places, like Dominos, to keep up with its changing customers. One marketing mix, which was used as an example in the video, was when Dominos tried to take the US slogan and make it work in the UK. “One call does it all,” does not actually mean that in the UK. Call, in the UK, means to make a house visit. So by learning from example, they found out that their marketing mix elements has to vary depending on what country they were in.

Another example of a marketing mix element that needed some change was when they were opening their franchise in Japan. Granted all the pizzas look the same but some of the toppings are not accepted in other cultures. In Japan, they did not know what pepperoni was. They thought it was a type of pepper, and when they found out it was a type of meat; they were a little discouraged because they do not really eat meat. After a few marketing elements that were

Competing in the market today can be very complicated. “The Pizza industry is a 30+ Billion per year industry ("Facts," 2010)” Maintaining a steady position in this industry is very imperative to us being successful in such a competitive market environment. Deciding when to expand a company is very important. There are decisions to be made for example whether management wants to vertically or horizontally integrate. What Resources will be needed? Other decisions may be to add a new product line to compete with other companies already in the market. Recognizing these issues early on help to eliminate falling behind in the market due to not recognizing competition when as it arises. So far to date Domino’s has done a remarkable job at staying ahead of the game. Being an innovator in deliver, later marketing the HeatWave bag, and even entering into new markets with hot oven subs and pasta bowls. The latest of our strive for excellence has resulted in us revamping our recipe. Just like everyone else we have our weaknesses, but our strengths are where we prevail. We have a great supply chain and have integrated it quite well. Our ability to change and implement these though our franchises have been relatively impressive. This is very unique to us indeed. We have overcome many obstacles. Since 2007 the economy has taken a downturn and has yet to recover completely. We have adapted by reducing prices, adding menu items and integrated a new recipe into our company to achieve more of a competitive advantage in this every changing market. As Trends change so do we. Even though we are doing great with the current changes, we need to take full advantage of the momentum and enter into a new market before a new competitor…

Dominoes was found in 1960 and headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Domino’s Pizza Inc. is the market leader in the United States pizza delivery and second largest pizza company in the world based on number of units. The company offers a wide variety of pizza products as well as pasta, bread sticks, boneless chicken and wings, desserts and soft drinks. As of the beginning of this year, 2012, Domino’s had 394 company-owned stores and 4,513 franchised Domino’s units in the U.S. and 4,835 franchised stores internationally. Domino’s strategy is to use its superior supply-chain to provide its franchises with lost cost inputs so the franchises may focus on sales and service. Through the online world, Domino’s customers began to share their dissatisfaction with Domino’s products, such as pizza lacked taste and quality and poor quality delivery pizzas. Over the past 3-5 years Domino’s has made an effort to improve the palatability of their core products, and in 2009 introduced a new and redesigned crust recipe, fresh ingredients, a new sauce, and real shredded cheese. This effort, along the successive marketing campaigns has increased brand loyalty and customer preferences which has had a profound effect on increases in revenue and number of franchise openings. I believe that this strategy that is currently implemented is working, but for Domino’s to remain an industry leader and prolong the current trend of success, Domino’s needs to focus on the demographic and technological changes in the market. Focusing on the changes and reevaluating their current strategy will help Domino’s remain a leader within the industry.…

Historically, Domino’s Pizza has been a strong player in both the domestic US and international out-ofhome pizza marketplaces. With more than 9,300 locations in 65 countries, Domino’s is the number two pizza restaurant behind Pizza Hut and number one in the pizza delivery segment with market share numbers approaching 20 percent.1 (See Exhibit 1 for a ranking of the top 50 pizzeria brands in 2009 by sales.) In recent years, how ever, Dom ino’s ha s com e un der c onsumer fire and, although masked by international revenue growth of 13.2 percent for the same period, the company posted a 16.3 percent decrease in domestic revenue from year-end 2005 through year-end 2009. While the economic recession could certainly be blamed at least in part for its lagging financial performance,2 Domino’s knew that this dip was more than just an economic indicator. In fact, the news reaching the executive suite indicated that Domino’s was suffering from a negative reputation in the marketplace. Central to consumer complaints was that Domino’s served low quality pizza with inferior ingredients that lacked taste. Coupled with the fact that consumers continue to become more and more educated about obesity and diet related health concerns and it was clear—Domino’s had to act. To stay competitive, Domino’s addressed both the taste deficiency complaints and the growing preference for fresh products by introducing a re-formulated pizza recipe in late 2009. To do so and in a move Advertising Age called “one of the riskiest marketing campaigns of all time,” Domino’s launched the “Oh yes we did” campaign.3 The campaign quite frankly and very publicly admitted the shortcomings of its previous recipe with TV com mercials sh owing foc us grou p p articipants…

The Marketing Mix was a phrase coined in the 1953 by Neil Borden in his AMA (American Marketing Association) presidential address. In 1960 E Jerome McCarthy proposed the 4 P classification that is now used when discussing the “mix”. The actual purpose of the marketing mix was to use a combination of tools to satisfy and reach the goals for both the consumer and company. The four P’s for this mix are product, price, place, and promotion, these are put together in order to successfully supply the majority of consumers with products a company creates.…

Domino’s pizza showed strong financial performance during 2011 which has given the company a significant amount of flexibility and freedom given the increase in revenues, earnings power, strategies for the future and continued growth. However, Domino’s has to decrease customer churn, drive up same- store sales and continually reinforce and strengthen their brand, capitalize on sociocultural shifts occurring in United States, centrally redefine its in store dining strategies, relative to growing online sales. Lesser competitors have higher in store and same store sales than Domino’s and also have a broader mix of lunch and…
