According to Google Dictionary, “Racism is the belief that every being belonging to a specific race has certain characteristics, abilities, especially that distinguish a superior race to an inferior race, also it is the discrimination of a specific race based on one's beliefs.” Although slavery, and the Civil Rights movement are long gone in America’s past, there is still racial controversy brewing up a storm in our country. Again, this movement started with the murder of Trayvon Martin, a seventeen year old teenegaer whose murderer was a neighborhood watch coordinator acquitted for the crime. Now all over America, African American men are brutally murdered by police officers-- strengthening the movement of black lives matter. According to Cracked.com, “It is statistically proven that black teenagers are twentyone more times likely to get shot by police officers than white ones.” This movement is also to create more equality for black people. One reason why they want to achieve more equality is because black people are found to go to jail more for the same crimes as white people, and they have less of a chance of getting a job based on their name, and skin color (Cracked.com). Finally, several examples on how racism still exists have been discussed, and the controversy continues. The controversy of the Confederate Flag, The Black Lives Matter Movement, and racial profiling.
