“Free the Mind” is an episode with a self-explanatory title. This documentary is about freeing the mind from post-traumatic stress and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder using various treatment methods, such as meditation, yoga and breathing exercises. This episode features Richard Davidson, a world-leading neuroscientist from the University of Wisconsin. Richard spends every day examining the nature of consciousness shown in our physical bodies, the nature of stress and anxiety and believes the structure of the brain can be changed using mental practices and thoughts; I believe that is true because I have a history of mental health. I’ve had many therapists help me look at the positive side of a situation rather than a negative side to help me feel better about that particular situation. Richard intends to apply these studies through meditation, breathing exercises and yoga, to two American soldiers, Steve and Rich suffering from PTSD. Both have symptoms from anger and anxiety to restlessness and grotesque flashbacks from the war. At the end of the documentary, the results of meditation were shown to have improved the attitudes of the soldiers and made them feel more happy and content.
I have never experienced, nor practiced any form of yoga or meditation, but breathing is a starting point of relaxation

I agree with the fact that it is the most complex organ in our body, because it’s what makes us talk, walk, and helps us convey emotions and feelings.     Roger & Me, a Michael Moore documentary, takes place in Flint, Michigan. It begins by highlighting a spirited and successful community and goes on to show the transformation and decline after General Motors closes their plant, leaving approximately 30,000 people unemployed. Michael Moore attempts to locate Roger Smith, chairman of GM, to show him the aftermath of the shutdown to the town of Flint. Evictions are at an all-time high, sometimes totaling 24 evictions in one day, and drug use and crime rate have also skyrocketed and as a result, jails become overpopulated. A woman began to breed and sell rabbits for income, some alive as pets, and others skinned and dressed as meat. Many local businesses went bankrupt and their doors closed, however, the Star Theatre of Flint remained one of the only successful outlets of revenue. The mayor was determined to revive the town of Flint and had a parade, brought in TV evangelist Reverend Robert Schueller to give a speech to boost morale, opened a theme park, and had a Hyatt Regency Hotel built.     I believe that with most things in life, this documentary contains both aspects that I agree with and disagree with.
