Achievements of the following Administration:
The Magsaysay Administration
There was notable economic progress under the Quirino Administration. The country had also strengthened its diplomatic relations with other countries. The Huk movement was on the decline. Despite these achievements, however, graft and corruption remained a problem. President Quirino ran for reelection on November 8, 1953. He lost to Ramon Magsaysay, his former Secretary of National Defense. Apparently, his failure to curb graft and corruption prompted the people to vote for a younger and more dynamic president.
President Magsaysay wanted to improve life in the barrio. Thousands of kilometers of feeders roads connecting the barrio was launched to provide potable drinking water for the barrio folks. Irrigation dams and canals were constructed to provide adequate water supply to agricultural lands. School houses and health centers were built to promote the education of the youth and maintain the health of the people.
Ramon Magsaysay was a popular President. He was the idol of the masses, the friend of the common people.l He mingled, talked and ate with the barrio people. He loved to speak the Filipino language and to wear the barong Tagalog even on state functions. So simple were his ways, so honest and sincere were his dealings with the people, so loyal and dedicated were his service to the Filipino people that many shed tears when he died in a plane crash on March 17, 1957 at Mt. Manungal , Cebu.

The Garcia Administration
On March 18, 1957, the day after Magsaysay’s death, Vice President Carlos P. Garcia took his oath as President of the Philippine Republic. He served the unexpired term of his predecessor. In the presidential election of November 12, 1957 Carlos Garcia won over his rivals Jose Yulo, Manuel Manahan, Claro M. Recto and Antonio Quirino. His running mate, Jose B. Laurel, however, lost to Diosdado Macapagal. This was the first time that the

I think Loewen chose the four quotes to get the reader to think about how important it is to have an understanding of the truth about our real history. Not the stories that are played out in history textbooks, but the real facts about American history. These quotes help set the stage for Lowen’s thesis by encouraging the reader to start to think about if what they were taught in school was really how it all happened. Loewen’s thesis is that history textbooks either misguide readers in the facts of American history or leave some of them out all together. In either case it creates a false sense of greatness for the story of the Pilgrims and the founding of America. I think Loewen’s thesis is the ninth paragraph after he asks the question “What has gone wrong”(para 8).…

    The Mexican Revolution

Porfirio Diaz was the president of Mexico when the Revolution broke out. He was elected in 1877, and although he swore to step down in 1880, he continued to be reelected until 1910. He claimed that he was justified in this because he brought stability to Mexico. However, this was hardly the case. Diaz's regime aimed to industrialize Mexico, and foreign investors such as the United States and Britain were eager to support the industrialization. Diaz's policies were so accommodating to foreigners that it angered the Mexican people. While the foreign investments were a source of heated debate, Diaz's land policy was even more questionable. There was a concentration of land power in the hands of the elite, and there was a huge disparity between the poor and wealthy in Mexico during Diaz's regime. Also, a law passed in 1883 allowed private companies to survey the land, and these companies controlled nearly 20 percent of the land in Mexico. Also, Diaz was allowing foreign people to take the communal land away from the indigenous peoples. The indigenous people were poverty-stricken and had less land than ever. The one good thing was that Mexico was exporting industries like sugar and coffee to overseas trading partners, yet Mexico could not feed itself; it needed to import many foods like corn. The money in the hands of the elite was a major cause of the revolution in Mexico.…
