Parenting has really changed in the Twenty-First Century. In life, parents are their child’s first and most important teachers. Obedience has become less important. Parents have put their focus on a close relationship with their kids instead of disciplining them for bad behavior. Some parents think that they should not be held responsible for their children’s action. Most children today are so free-willed and independent, that their parents cannot control them. If a parent has lack of control over their kids to an extent, I think parents should be criminally responsible for their actions. Many people think that parents are to blame for their children’s behavior and that they should be punished, but some disagree for different reasons. An American psychiatrist Karl Meginer quoted, “What’s done to children, they will do in society”. Which simply means, kids represents their parents and how they are raised is how they will act in society.
Parents should be responsible for their children’s behavior because they are the one who gave them life. It is their responsibility to provide care, food, education, protection, and moral values for their children. For those reasons, parents should be held responsible for their child’s behavior. They should be held accountable when their child commits a crime.
Many parents believe that they should be held responsibly until the age of maturity in the state they reside in. The age of maturity is a legal term for the age of when a child reaches adulthood and has the rights and privileges of an adult. The age of maturity in Louisiana is eighteen years old. This means that the teen is considered an adult under the law, both federal and state, and is now responsible for their own actions.
