Diversity And Embracing Differences
What is diversity? Diversity is embracing differences between people and respecting and evaluating other as individuals . As a Vietnamese-American female raised in the U.S by an immigrant mother, I was fortunate enough to have encountered very few racist comments or act towards myself or anyone around me until November 10, 2016, two days after Trump was elected. Like any other weekend, I sometimes traveled to UMD to visit my boyfriend. I initially thought my boyfriend’s roommate was kind because he always seemed welcoming when I would come visit. Things began feel a little uncomfortable when I found out that his roommate voted for Trump ; a candidate that I strongly disagree with. However, I still respected his roommate's right to free expression, to vote for whomever he chose.
One encounter changed everything. My boyfriend and I went out to grab some dinner with his friends, including his roommate. After we finished eating, we decided to go play pool. During the game, everything seemed to go well until I congratulated my boyfriend's roommate for shooting the ball into the hole. His friends began to giggle about a comment that my boyfriend's roommate had made towards me. , I didn't clearly hear the comment that he made, but one of my boyfriend's friends was giggling and said, "Dude, that was racist". From that day on, I promised to myself that from now on, I would stand up for myself and for others. To love and forgive people even though they're not the same as I am or who don’t share the same ideas. To also not base on one person's actions and make assumption about the whole community as I'm sure UMD has plenty of good people. For me, diversity is what is going to be what makes America great

    In read the Barriers and Challenges to Managing Diversity there was several problems present at Cityside Financial Services. One the problem was how the Sales Division was divided. When the investor banker brought the company it was mostly white. Two different units were created in sales which one catered to rich clients and other one serviced the local community.
