The diversity in the world today helps us all to grow as individuals and open our minds to the different ways of life. When a person becomes exposed to the different cultures and ways of life and how others live their life’s we see that all people do live differently in some way or another, then our minds are not closed anymore, yet they are opened to the differences of the world and we can see that each culture has a difference and that difference has a meaning in their lives. Diversity also promotes tolerance in the world. It allows us to accept other cultures and sometimes even adapt to the ways of those cultures and utilize those differences in our own cultures and lives. Although we are all different in some way or another, we all have differences that can strengthen society. Diversity allows us to learn, grow and understand new ways of living. Proposed reasons how diversity can benefit organizations is by having a variety of diverse individuals that bring skills and experiences and allows a business to provide to others globally (Greenberg 2010). Various points of views and ideas could be used for strategies to become more effective for customers. People from different gender, nationality and racial groups have different attitudes and perspectives on issues and can increase creative ideas for problem solving and marketing. Cox & Blake (1991) had an experiment between two groups, one having no diversity among them, and the other group with diversity. When judged by problem solving creativity on originality and practicality; results stated that if both groups had similar ability levels, the group with diversity were more creative than the group that didn’t have diversity. In order for the diverse group to…

Diversity is good for business. As AT&T’s chief diversity officer Cindy Brinkley noted, their customer population is quite diverse as well (Harvey & Allard, 2011). Having employees from several different backgrounds will certainly help customer relations. As an example of diversity improving business, I recall the last time that I visited Home Depot, there was a large sign advertising which employees to ask for who would be able to speak a foreign language, such as Spanish, Arabic and Russian. This caters to individuals who otherwise would not be able to communicate with employees at the store. Maintaining diversity in the workforce can promote growth in a company by employing individuals with different ways of thinking and problem solving. Agreement is not always beneficial and it can hinder the opportunity to improve an idea. According to Harvey and Allard (2011) management may try to use avoidance and repression to manage differences. This type of setting brings together people that are too similar…

Diversity is an effective way to draw new employees who bring a wide range of talents, perspectives and problem-solving skills. A homogeneous employee population runs the risk of approaching marketplace challenges using the same ideas and thinking styles as they always have. A multicultural group not only generates fresh perspectives and suggestions, but they also can appeal to a more diverse network of customers…
