In 2011, at least twenty-three percent of auto collisions involved cell phones. Can you guess how high that number is now? People now think that they can do multiple things at once while driving, and that’s not the case. It’s dangerous, but they don’t care. I do not think that out state does enough to prevent distracted driving. There are a few ways to avoid distracted driving and how to stop it. Cops can pull someone over if they see them on the phone, the government can start giving out tickets, put up cameras and satellites that track cell phone usage to catch distracted drivers easily.
They already have satellites that track our conversations, texts, web activity on our phones, so why not use it to catch distracted driving. How much easier would that be? People would never know. Those satellites could contact local police stations to let them know and have an officer pull the distracted driver over. How many lives could we save that way? How man people would become less afraid of driving? A lot. We could help so many people if only the government tried. Some people are terrified to even go out to drive, because they are afraid of either distracted drivers or drunk drivers. Would you believe that the percentage of accidents from distracted driving is higher than drunk driving? Crazy right? It should be the other way around but it’s not.
