In the book “The Crucible”, by Arthur Miller, Deputy Danforth is more to blame for the trials continuation than Abigail Williams because he always believed whoever had been accused a witch, refused any evidence showing that the accused were innocent, and was more concerned with the court’s image than justice being served.…

Since then the play has been performed numerous times, the first of which took place on January 22, 1953 and since then has been readapted into a film directed by Nicholas Hytner. Does an author always have to stick to conventions in writing? A dramatic convention is an unrealistic element in a literary work that is accepted by readers or viewers because it is traditional. The two main characters; Hester Prynne and Abigail Williams of The Scarlet Letter and The Crucible, respectively, are very similar in the ways they both commit sin in their societies. However, there are differences between the two. Both women committed the sin of adultery but that was Hester’s single sin, Abigail had sin of lust, envy, wrath, and greed none of which are comparable to Hester’s. Hester protected the man she loved and took her blame to make sure his name in the town did not go rotten, while Abigail dragged her own friends into the web of lies she created and but not only her own name under the name of witchcraft but also the ones she loved and loved her. Hester was repentant of her sin by wearing her scarlet letter but Abigail went to no end to attempt to clear her name of the unwholesome crime she had carried out. Abigail’s reluctance to admit to what she did made it all the harder for the people of her town to find forgiveness in her.…
The Crucible was a very well written play, and gave many themes throughout its entirety. A huge theme was Integrity and Courage. People needed integrity and courage to make it through with their goodness back in the times of witch trials, and people still need it today just so their goodness survives. Many people showed their integrity and courage, but some stood above the rest. Giles Corey died a free man, John Hale stood up to the courts corruption, and then ended up leaving, Rebecca Nurse did not confess, and John Procter died with his name and goodness.…

In the original version of The Crucible, published in 1953, a second scene for Act II was written but Arthur Miller decided to take it from the future editions that came after that time. A reason Arthur Miller might have removed this scene from the play was that it showed the readers too much information, which would have given the readers too much about what would happen later on in the play and it might have had disinterested the readers into continuing reading. The Act II scene, which was taken off from the play, would have changed the outlook that the read had on The Crucible and its characters, like Abigail’s character. Abigail would have been viewed differently after this scene because they would feel pity for her. Arthur Miller made a good decision in taking out that extra scene from Act II, after continuing the publishing of the other Crucible's plays.…

This topic has been talked about for many years. In To Kill a Mockingbird and The Crucible, both authors talk about justice. They both tell their story in a unique way. There are many similarities between The Crucible and To Kill a Mockingbird, however false accusations in both books can be approached in three different ways: the method that Arthur Miller brings real characters to life, the method Harper Lee, analyzes the story using different characters, and comparing both authors on how they use false accusations in the books.…
