Diary Of Anne Frank Comparison Essay
Anne Frank’s quote, “Despite everything, I still believe people are really good at heart” is stating that people go through tough situations, but can overall have a positive outcome. This is what happens in the stories “The Diary Of Anne Frank” and “Freedom Writers”. In the “The Diary Of Anne Frank”, thirteen-year old Anne Frank and her family are forced into hiding to avoid the Nazis. Anne must accept and make the most out of her gloomy situation to survive. In the movie “Freedom Writers”, ninth grader Eva and her classmates have rough lives because of race and differences. With no hope for the future, the students meet Mrs. Gruwell, who turns their negative worlds upside-down. Both “The Diary Of Anne Frank” and “Freedom Writers” show that people change for the better, but the characters do so in different ways.

Anne became sympathetic when she realized she was able to sleep in a warm bed in a secure building while people outside the Annexe were being starved and tortured. On the other hand, students from Room 203 continued to go to school even if that was last thing they wanted to do. They learned how to be patient and being open-minded to new things. Mrs. Gruwell provided a sense of family which opened endless possibilities for the students in the end. Second, Anne became more of a mature girl over time while living in the Annexe. She started to write her rebellious comments in her diary instead of saying them out loud. Furthermore, Mrs. Gruwell changes greatly when she recognizes that she needed to continue to fight and not give up on her students. She came to work everyday with determination and a smile on her face even if her working conditions were tough. Her dedication impacted her students lives tremendously.
