Anne Frank
12th June 1942
‘I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as i have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support.’
14th June 1942
I’m going to go back to the day I got you…my birthday! To start I’m going to tell you a little bit about myself, I guess I’m just an ordinary girl, with an ordinary family. I’m 13 years old now; I was born on the 12 June 1929, and I guess I do have a great family, living in a great home. I could name at least 30 people I would call my friends, but we aren’t really close at all. We just talk about normal day things, and I never really tell them my feelings or secrets. Therefore, I’m rather glad I have you, as you can be someone I can talk to when I’m feeling down, or when something has happened. I want my diary to be my friend, and I am going to call this friend kitty.
Wednesday, 24th June 1942
Dearest Kitty,
Oh what a day! A very very hot day it is, I’ve never really been grateful for the tram, but now I’ve realised just how pleasant it is instead of having to walk everywhere! I don’t really understand why, but now Jew’s aren’t allowed to take the tram…actually, we aren’t allowed to take any type of transport bar ferry, it is quite worrying, and I even got my bike stolen from me on my way to school the other day, quite a shock!
I have to go, bye-bye for now, Anne.
Sunday 5th July, 1942
Dear Kitty,
I’m terribly worried, we were just casually strolling down the street, my whole family, and father mentioned going into hiding, and he sounded so serious. He told me to ‘enjoy my carefree life while I could’, im rather scared…

Dear kitty,
We’re now all hiding in the place I like to call ‘the Secret Annexe’, surprisingly its quite cosy up here, although I’d much rather go back to normal life. The Secret Annexe is above daddy’s office, hidden from the outside world behind a book case, it’s all quite surreal. I feel so
