Many people all over the world spend their holidays travelling. They travel to see other countries and continents, modern cities and the ruins of ancient towns, they travel to enjoy picturesque places, or just for a change of scene. It's always interesting to discover new things, different ways of life, to meet different people, to try different food, to listen to different musical rhythms.

Travelling is… …a good way of getting information. …a way to have good time. …a way to learn languages. …a possibility to communicate with people from other countries. …a way to visit places of interest and to feel greatness of monuments of the world history and art.

History Travelling as a hobby appeared many years ago. A lot of people were interested in opening new places, wanted to get acquainted with others, to get some experience with their help, to know and get new sorts of plants, trees and animals.

Wealthy people have always travelled to distant parts of the world to see great buildings or other works of art, to learn new languages, to experience new cultures or to taste new cuisine. As long ago as the time of the Roman Republic such places as Baiae were popular coastal resorts for the rich. The terms tourist and tourism were first used as official terms in 1937 by the League of Nations. Tourism was defined as people travelling abroad for periods of over 24 hours.
