Dewitt Clinton's Against School
After reading “ Free schools” by Dewitt Clinton and “Against School” by John Taylor Gatto both have two completely opposite ideas about school and make very valid points. Dewitt Clinton believes that everyone should be educated and schooling should be free so people of all wealth could be educated where as John Gatto believes that not all people need school and in fact by making it mandatory it becomes boring. Gatto argues that school days are too long and seem to be never ending for twelve years, but this isn’t including college. Clinton on the other hand states to improve the ignorance in government education is needed. He says ignorance is the cause of bad governments. Clinton advises us that there are different types of funds, some larger then others, that help the people pay significantly for an education in the school system. He refers to crime and ignorance as evil and gets this word from the people less fortunate and uneducated for one reason or another to help argue his point, that education should be a main priority an everyone should be …show more content…
Most of the time when you walk in a classroom they are this dull boring color and then you look around and see the kids in the classroom and they are either sleeping or dazed out into space. If classrooms themselves were brighter and warm and friendly and teachers didn’t teach the same thing over and over again with one tone of voice and actually tried to make it interesting maybe children wanting to learn more would inspire them to learn more about their own subjects. But, this contradicts the boring argument but kids become bored when they have reached the level of learning with no where else to go. It’s like reaching the top of a cliff with no where else to go, that gets boring after a while but no one tries to educate themselves and learn more they just stay in the same place

    Just yesterday I was reading an article “What Keeps Students Motivated to Learn?” by Katrina Shwartz. She talked about how teachers should give students projects they’re interested in. Gramann a student that Shwarts talked to stated “that if teachers give broad guidelines for projects and then have students do something they’re interested in it will bring students along the whole time.” I agree with with Gramann but at the same time I feel conflicted because no matter what there will always be students who don’t do their work. Teachers may agree with me in this situation because even if you make a project easy and interesting there will always be those that are either lazy or procrastinate too much and end up not doing what they’re asked to. As teachers you all know that, that doesn’t need to be the case, we have to help them avoid that. We all have to make an effort to change students ways and we have to make sure that no one in class is falling behind. It’s a teacher’s job to motivate students to do their best and treat them as your own children. Gramann also stated “I feel motivated because because the teachers make me feel worth it.” This alone should show teachers that they have to motivate their students and support them the whole way. They need help and our role is to be there for them as much as we can, to make sure that they get help. We can’t let them fall behind…
