Deuba Beach
Beachy Paradise
One of my most favourite places in the world would be the blazing hot beaches in Fiji. Deuba beach is a sandy wonderland filled with childhood memories. Things I will never forget.
Ripples of water boil in the beaming sun making itself a big spa. Odd slimy seaweed flows in and out, rhythmically moving with the current, not causing a single suspense. Starving sea gulls squawk overhead like hunting vultures stalking their preys’, waiting for the predators to leave. The ocean breeze slams soundlessly against our bodies, forming golden sand into dunes filled with spinifex. Coconut trees dance moving its branches like a human arm. Coconut crabs tumble miserably falling down to the ground in attempt to climb a tree. Harmless, they try again. Hammocks dangle from tree to tree providing luxury and leisure for whoever lays in. Estuaries divide the beach creating shallow pools, fresh water flows into the ocean.
The crystal mirror breaks as we dive in. Bitter salt enters my mouth causing my throat dehydration; it felt like the entire Sahara desert had transferred into my oesophagus. We snorkel above naturally craved reefs and beautiful corals. Magnificent fish swim majestically beneath us. Lonely or in schools they swim happily and freely. Sharp seashells fissure under my sandals, some so beautiful that they could be mistaken for artificial ones. Grand resorts by the beach attracts a majority of tourists, the beach is ever crowded which builds up more excitement. A huge shark farm nearby does create anxiety but gets overtaken by the activities that are available.
Roasted lamb in the air makes tummies rumble. BBQs everywhere an ideal lunch for picnics. Families gather laughter and stories is all that can be heard. A remembrance of the past makes elders cry but all that

Waking up to the sound of the waves crashing, vendors on the beach are offering fresh cold coconuts; children are playing in the warm, equatorial water. The beach is serene and quiet compared to the wild parties of the night before. The sun is warming; the world is coming alive and the day beginning. You walk a little further and accommodate your route to avoid the build up of smashed bottles in the sand. A homeless man lies ahead of you. A plastic bag washes up on the shore along with a dead blowfish.…

The thick tree lines and vast open fields bring a sense of freedom and grandeur. The brilliant light shining like beacon of hope with the soft calming breeze flowing across the field is refreshing and pure like a baby after a warm bath. The air seems to be free and clear of the city’s poisonous air pollution and the soft sounds of birds makes it all too refreshing, like a beautiful day on the beach. With quiet clean monuments and buildings dancing across the landscape, the look of peace and quiet seems to be present at last. As the blue crisp skies begin to darken across the brilliant blue pond, the shimmering light hitting the trees is as beautiful as the sun setting on the Catalina Island on a bright blue day with soft clouds flowing across the sky. I have the taste of fresh fruit on my tongue in my mouth as I take a long deep breath, and realize how much the soft green grass adds to the peacefulness in the park. I can hear the cheerful wildlife scampering beyond the tree line, like young children frolicking in their mother’s front yard. As the quiet darkness sets in, and with the city brilliant lights in the background, the serene park makes the bustling city seem peaceful once…

If you were to give people the option of traveling anywhere in the world, majority of people would choose beautiful vacation spots on exquisite beaches or breathtaking mountains. However, I am the opposite. If I was given a ticket that would take me anywhere in the world, I would choose to go to Haiti.…

The sand scorched our feet like steaks on a fiery grill. I had brought the Rock along to join me for a surfing lesson. We snatched our wetsuits and our boards and hit the waves. The ocean water sends a chilling sensation through my body. The polar water feels like a steamy shower after a long day, calming and relaxing. The waves are monstrous and intimidating, however, I seem to ride them effortlessly like I had done it a million times before. I dash past the Rock and under a curling wave. In the waves there are vividly colored fish swimming in schools. The water is so translucent that one can easily see the ocean floor, and the coral and seaweed that lay on…

As I sprint across the hot sand that burns the soles of my feet, the smell of salt water and sunscreen hits my face. I can see teenagers nearby as they dive to save a falling volleyball, covering themselves in grains of sand. While I’m preoccupied, watching the intense game of volleyball, the cold waves of the Atlantic Ocean come crashing down on my legs. I can hear my best friend, Tara, dying of laughter as my body tries to adjust to the temperature of the sparking turquoise waters. Surrounding us is vibrantly colored tropical plants and trees.…

The most notable sight is the ocean, which is miles and miles of clear blue water. Attached to the water was smoothe white sand, filled with petite seashells. The sky is cloudless and blue. Bright rays are always shining from the flourescent sun, making it the perfect place to sun bathe. There is always a gentle breeze blowing the palm trees and Marram grass. Families stay on the beach all day swimming in the ocean or playing a variety of beach activities.…

It has been 10 years now and that encounter is still vivid in my memory. Looking over the railing of the pier, I see the turquoise water with small waves rippling across the surface. Scanning the pier, I quickly checked to make sure that no one is watching me and jump into the calm blue waters that lay below. Once submerged, I open my eyes and notice the small pearl-like bubbles rising and rays of sunlight streaming into the water around me. The sensation of breathing underwater remains unnerving to this day. Underneath the water lays a large expanse of coral with such an amazing array of bright and vibrant colors that it looks to have been painted; this is my destination today. Approaching the reef, I notice an assortment of lively colored fish, darting through the waters and swimming amongst the coral. For hours, I lingered, silently observing the coral reef community living together in balance and harmony. I did not fully appreciated that night so many years ago, but the ability to breathe underwater provided me with an escape from the madness in the world…

A storm brews above. People escape the beach, quickly grabbing their possessions as rain spits down on them. Music from cafes and fare rides come to a halt as their customers quickly disappear and the happy sounds of laughter echo around the empty beach. A gloomy shadow descends over the sea. Feeble light from the few surviving streetlights and lanterns appear to dim as the dark clouds move across the sky like a creeping panther. Birds silence their song and flee to safer places. Sandcastles with small motes, which surrounded them, are now filled with seawater. Any last remaining footsteps disappear and are quickly buried beneath the sand. The wind teases the scattered rubbish… picking it up then quickly releasing it again. People shelter in cars waiting for the storm to pass…their windscreen wipers furiously fighting against the increasingly powerful rain. Waves rage upon the sand, sending sand back and forth as they go. They crash against the sea wall, shooting upwards and spraying the abandoned cafes and shops. Yachts begin to rock with the waves; they are like a gymnast balancing on a beam about to fall any second. The pier fights against the drowning waves as they attempt to bring it under the surface. Trees surrender at the battering wind, forcing leaves and branches to be torn off their trunks. A bird-usually so in control of its own destiny-fights the beast as it toys with it playfully.…

I inhaled deeply, and the sharp scent of salt infiltrated my nostrils. The water lay before me, clear as crystal. The waves crashes onto the smooth sand, and the white foam rushed to my bare feet, as the sun beat on on the blue water. The glittering sea reflected in my eyes, and a smile spread across my face. This was paradise. This was Hawaii.…

The beach is a beautiful scene of peace and tranquility. Every moment is a different scene. As I sit in my chair I can see all the sights of summer; children building sand castles along the ocean's edge, to my right I observe an elderly couple enjoying a good book. The waves crash into one another, the breeze blowing from the tide, the smell of salty ocean, and the sticky air…

As I walk down the narrow, brown, rickety bridge that leads to the ocean my heart begins to race in anticipation of reaching the fascinating sight. I’m suddenly surrounded by sand that is white and pure as snow. I walk at a turtle’s speed absorbing this overwhelming beauty that encircles me. The sky is the brightest blue I’ve ever seen, so bright that it almost seems as if it is from an animated movie and not real life itself. Fluffy clumps of clouds that were covering the sky before slowly fade away into thin air and the crystal clear waves sparkle like diamonds. The water is never-ending. I see heaps of seagulls flying around the sky, white and grey and full of spirit. As a gust of wind runs through my long, dark, brown hair I look to the right to see two elegant dolphins leap from the deep blue sea and dive back in as if saying hello to the gorgeous, heavenly day.…

When asked to think of paradise it invariably throws up a picture of the palm tree lined, white sanded beach and clear blue sea, this is not by accident. It has long been most people’s idea of paradise, since the eighteenth century people who could, holidayed by the sea. Some of the most desirable properties and land in the world are by the sea. To me the coming together of land and sea is one of the most therapeutic things to look at and hear in some cases. The spectacular cliffs with their sheer drops and crashing waves on the rocks below…
