Determination In Speech To The Young Speech And Mother To Son
Determination is the essence of life. If you take a look at any successful person, that is one thing in common that they all share. Whether it be a Fortune 500 CEO, or a successful small business owner, determination is one of the most important traits you can have in your life. In the new generation today, most people don’t have goals in their lives, and are extremely lazy, and most importantly, lack determination to accomplish anything. These terrible character traits displayed by our youth could result in our great nation’s demise.In these two poems, “Speech to the Young Speech to the Progress Toward” by Gwendolyn Brooks and and “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes address the importance of determination in our lives. Here are some examples of how each poem shows the importance of determination in their own unique way.

For example, it states, “Live not for battles won.Live not for the-end-of-the-song. Live in the along.”. This is a huge problem that people face every single day. People never address the problems that they have NOW rather they look what they should do in the future. You should live in the present rather than worry about the future. Also, in the passage, it states, "Even if you are not ready for day it cannot always be night.” This shows that even if you aren’t prepared for something, it might still happen. For example, if Mr.Coyle were to give a test that I wasn’t ready for, it would still come, even if I weren’t prepared.
