In the book Tale of Despereaux by Kate Dicamillo, a little mouse named Despereaux has always read books about princesses and princes. His dream is to save a princess so he can be like a prince. So, he sets off on an adventure to save a princess. I enjoyed this book because it was adventurous. I liked when Despereaux was sent down to the dungeon and he had to find his way out. I also liked hearing about the different stories of the characters because they made the book more clearer and interesting. The setting of the book is in a castle where a little mouse was born and, fulfilled his dream in the castle. This is where each of the characters go and they each have an important role at the castle. Another important setting in the book is the dungeon, because that is where Despereaux was sent to after breaking a mouse law, and the princess was being held captive down there. That is also where the antagonist plotted their plans to kidnap the princess. The plot of the story is when Mig and Ruscoro captures the princess, and Despereaux decided to go out to find and rescue her. The conflict of the story is when Mig and Rusoro capture the princes, and tries to kill Despereaux. 2. My favorite place from the setting is the library. To me the library is like a whole different world. It’s not just a place full of books: it’s a place that you can explore and learn new things every day. I go to the library at least once a week, and read as many books as I can per month. The reason I love reading is because you can escape reality and enter the world of the character(s) in the novel.…

Words cut through my mind like 1000 papercuts, sharp and painful. They swirl, crowd and scatter, taunting me, impossible to catch. I'm expected to read this out loud? How? I stumble and stutter slowly fighting through the double-edged blades of d’s and b’s the, gaping maws of silent e’s, the poisoned spikes of ph’s. My first-grade teacher spits acid, “Why don’t you just focus?”. The thousand-eyed monster shifts and shows it’s eyes white, restless, ready to strike with the laughter of 25 tiny voices. I fight alone through switching numbers as 21’s turn to 12’s. I fight alone, slogging through the muck of short passages, while others soar above on Nimbus 2000 broom sticks with Harry. I fight alone until I meet a little mouse named Despereaux.…

A fairytale is a story every girl dreams of. In literature a fairytale is defined as a story where improbable events lead to a happy ending. It is expected that there will be a hero who will overcome adversity and in the end will save the day. In Kate Chopin’s short story “Desiree’s Baby," the presence of fairytale features is extremely obvious. “Desiree’s Baby” has common connections to the themes of Snow White, Cinderella, and Beauty and The Beast in which they fall in love, the woman waits for her true love to come home, and they overcome hardships before they live happily ever.…
