Abstract— A design of a microstrip rectangular patch antenna is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna was simulated using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) CAD Package and design on a microstrip with relative permittivity of 4.6, and substrate and copper thickness of 0.5 mm and 0.035 mm respectively with 4.5 GHz of frequency.

INTRODUCTION

Microstip antenna which is also known as the printed antenna is very practical in these days. The characteristics of this antenna are low profile, light weight, low volume and broad bandwidth. An antenna should be low-profile, comfortable and suitable to planar and nonplanar surfaces, simple and inexpensive to manufacture, mechanically robust when mounted on rigid surfaces. When the particular patch shape and mode are selected they are very versatile in terms of resonant frequency, polarization, pattern and impedance. Microstrip single antenna has several advantages and also has several disadvantages such as low gain, narrow bandwidth with low frequency. So, these disadvantages can be overcome by constructing many patch antennas in array configuration. The design used inset feeding method based on quarter wave impedance matching technique. However it does not mention the radiation efficiency, directivity, VSWR and the fabricated size. The design of single and patch array microstrip antennas with microtrip line as feeding method is presented. Quarter-wave transformer is used to match the feeding line to the antennas. The center frequency is determined to operate at 4.5GHz. The patch array antenna was then fabricated on the substrate type RT/Duroid 5880 with dielectric constant of 2.22, substrate

    Abstract—A novel MIM/coaxial-stub composite right/lefthanded (CRLH) metamaterial transmission-line (TL) structure is proposed. In addition to the common metal-insulator-metal (MIM) series capacitor, a short-circuited coaxial line, which is vertically aligned to the otherwise planar structure, forms the shunt inductor. The zeroth-order (ZO) series mode with its spatially uniform and longitudinally polarized series current of the short-circuited CRLH TL is utilized in the context of RF field excitation in a 7-Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner. The usage of coaxial stubs instead of sidewise microstrip lines has several advantages, especially for the MRI application, such as a unit cell with smaller width, the unwanted longitudinal magnetic field components excited by the shunt resonantor are shielded by the outer coaxial connector and the upper MIM plate, yielding a high Qsh -to-Qse -ratio (here 250/100), which implies an extremely uniform series current distribution. Here a 40-cm long ZO resonant element for 300 MHz is proposed. FEM eigenmode and FDTD driven-mode full-wave simulation, together with corresponding near-field measurements on fabricated prototypes are presented to comfirm the approach.     Wireless power transmission is the transmission of electrical energy from a power source to an electrical load without man-made conductors. Wireless transmission is useful in cases where interconnecting wires are inconvenient, hazardous, or impossible. So a study was made on the investigation of wireless power transmission by near-field coupling from the view point of the antennas. Mainly the antennas are of two types - dipole and loop antennas – and were used as the transmitting antenna and the receiving antenna for electrical near-field coupling and for magnetic near-field coupling, respectively. The relationships among the power-transmission efficiency and the antennas ' geometries, the antennas ' electrical sizes, the impedance matching of the antennas, and the ohmic losses in the antennas and the impedance-matching circuits were clarified. This technology has been widely applied, from the wireless charging of electronic devices to huge projects, such as the solar-power satellite system. The most important challenge is to maintain higher power-transmission efficiency over longer transmission distances which was strictly defined as the ratio of the received power at the receiving antenna and the input power at the transmitting antenna. Several observations were obtained, demonstrating the influence on the power-transmission efficiency of the impedance matching and ohmic losses in the wireless power-transmission system associated with near-field coupling. A wireless power-transmission system was numerically analysed by using canonical methods, including a dipole system and a loop system, the relationships among the power-transmission efficiency and the antenna geometries, distance between antennas, sizes and ohmic losses in the antennas and matching circuits.
