DESIGN AN EXPERIMENT: THE BIGGEST BLOWER EXPERIMENT

Design an Experiment: The Biggest Blower Experiment
Problem Statement: You have a pack of Hubba Bubba Bubble Gum. Does the amount of sugar in this gum affect the size of the bubble you blow??
Hypothesis: I think that sugar in any gum affects the size of the bubble you blow. I think this because I was watching “The Next Great Baker” and someone was melting sugar and when it cooled off a little he used a balloon blower to make bubbles out of the sugar, so I think the more sugar you add the bigger bubble you will be able to blow.
Materials List: * * 1 pack of Hubba Bubba Bubble Gum (12 pieces) * Hot Melted Sugar * Microwave * 2 Microwavable Containers * Whisk or something to stir the gum and sugar with * Wax Paper * Ruler * Partner
Conditions Allowed: Room Temperature about 70-75 degrees
How/When/How many are you going to measure? I am going to measure and compare my data by first blowing 5 bubbles with the different pieces of Hubba Bubba Bubble Gum without sugar and measuring with a ruler from the opening of the mouth to the end of the bubble in centimeters. After I will add the sugar to the gum and cut out 5 pieces (about the same size of a regular piece) and measure the bubbles of each. In all, I will be measuring 10 bubbles.
Procedure:
1) Take out 5 pieces of Hubba Bubba Gum out of one of your packs. 2) Chew one piece of gum and blow the biggest bubble you can without it popping. 3) Let your partner measure the bubble. To measure the bubble your partner needs to put the ruler right where the bubble starts (which would be on the opening of your mouth), facing the ruler straight out away from you. 4) Record where the bubble stops. (Measure in centimeters) 5) Throw away the piece of gum. 6) Repeat steps 2-5 with the other 4 pieces of gum and record you measurements for each bubble. 7) Now take the rest of the gum pieces out of the pack

To weigh each of the gummy bears we used a balance. Each of the three brands was weighed three times. We then submerged one of each type of gummy worm in a 500ml beaker for about 15 minutes. This was to get an accurate measure of their weight, by averaging the average weight before and after they were placed in water. Figure 1.4 shows a representation of the results.…

Introduction: This experiment was conducted to determine the amount of sugar in a can of Coke and to and use a calibration curve. 5 different solutions were made, each containing 100mL of water and between 1 and 7 grams of sugar. The calibration curve was used to determine the sugar in the can of Coke. The measurements used are grams and milliliters. The calibration curve is used to determine the grams of sugar just by using the density of the can of Coke. In this experiment the main equation was density = mass / volume.…

My hypothesis is that if I add different amounts of sugar to the same amount of boiling water and allow it to be cooled, than the one with the additional cup of sugar will be the one that grows more crystals. I determined that my hypothesis was correct. The glass I chose to add the pure cane sugar did grow much more crystals at a more rapid pace. The purpose of my experiment is to grow a large amount of crystals on a wooden skewer. Rock candy is a candy made with sugar that I chose to attempt to grow on a wooden skewer. This delicious candy is actually crystallized sugar that I grew from a sugar-water solution. In this science fair project I have learn how to grow my own rock candy and determine if you use different types of sugar, it will change the growth rate of your sugar crystals. When I added the extra cup of sugar to observation 2, it grew approximately 8 cm more than observation 1 over a period of 5 days.…

The yellow pod experimented to discover what happens when you put gummy bears in different types of water for one day. The yellow pod put gummy bears in a beaker filled with salt water and another container filled with tap water. The data collected shows that the tap water made the gummy bear grow faster than salt water and the gummy bear weighed 2.7 grams more when soaked in tap water compared to salt water. The tap water bear also grew 10 centimeters in height more than the salt water gummy bear. Also, the tap water bear’s leg fell off during the experiment. The hypothesis predicted that both water would make the gummy bears shrink, but the salt would make it shrink more. Based on the data collected, no further experiments will be needed.…
