Hogwarts The most distinct setting of Harry Potter is Hogwarts. Hogwarts is a wondrous, magical building with many towers and turrets. It is home to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I find Hogwarts location, its castle, the grounds, and Quiddich fascinating. Hogwarts is built in a forested area said to be in Scotland. The castle is located atop a cliff overlooking a lake. The lake is south of the castle and the front entrance of the castle faces toward the west. There is a small underground inlet, its entrance hidden by hanging ivy, that leads to a stony beach below the castle at the base of the cliff. From there, a path leads up to the front door of the castle. A road runs around the lake to the village of Hogsmeade. Hogwarts is entirely enclosed by a huge wall and the main entrance is lined with pillars which has statues of winged boars on them. Also, the castle is bewitched by a spell that keeps it hidden from muggles. All a muggle would see is moldering old ruins with a sign over the entrance saying DANGER, DO NOT ENTER, UNSAFE. Hogwarts School is a complicated, diverse combination of buildings which varies in style and architecture. It's held together by magic, so the towers literally defy gravity and the various types of construction fit together in impossible way. The wooden beams join seamlessly to stone battlements and plaster walls meld into iron door frames. On top of all that, the various rooms and spaces in the castle tend to move around, especially the staircases. This can’t be happening all the time, surely, or no one would be able to get anywhere, but it does happen enough to keep people on their toes. Hogwarts grounds are very large and contain many different magical entities. The Whomping Willow is a very violent tree planted in the middle of the school grounds and disguises the opening to the secret passageway from Hogwarts to The Shrieking Shack. To the east of Hogwarts is the Forbidden Forrest. The
