Descriptive Essay
An apartment is a self contained housing unit that occupies only part of a building. Apartments may be owned (by an owner/occupier) or rented (by tenants). My first apartment was located in Brooklyn in the Flatbush section. It was a small but very conveniently located third floor apartment in a elevator building. The building only had five floors with a see through glass lobby entrance. The building had a doorman that worked from four until midnight. He was a very pleasant middle aged gentleman with a carribean accent. The lobby had a sunken waiting area with black leather sofa and arm chairs that looked like they were bought in the 1960`s, but well maintained. When you came into the building in the evening you could smell the strong scents of all types of seasoning especially curry due to the Indian family living near the elevator. When riding the elevator up to my apartment it would shake from side to side and occasionally would hold someone captive until the elevator repairman came to get them out. My apartment was located on the third floor. It had a small foyer with a small closet to the left, a living room that measured 11 feet by 17 feet . It also had a very small kitchen that only one person could cook in at a time otherwise you would be constantly bumping into the other cook. Next to the small kitchen was a half size bathroom whose vanity mirror would steam up due to not having any windows or a proper working ventilation duct. When you came out the bathroom to your right was a small bedroom that you could only get a minimal amount of furniture in. Basically this apartment was in the shape of a box that was sectioned off into four areas. To make it into a home I started with the living room, I painted the walls chocolate brown and bought a sofa to match. The sofa was made of a furry material so I bought an orange chaise lounge to go with the sofa. I also bought earth tone curtains to mellow out the loud look of the orange chaise. I placed the orange chaise

What’s better to chill out a hot summer’s day than something sweet and cool? No, I am not talking about a Popsicle. I am not talking about an ice cream cone, either. I am not even talking about iced tea or lemonade. It is something better than all of those, and it doesn’t even have all the sneaky calories of those other tasty treats! The answer to the question is simple. Have you guessed it? It is a cherry.…

In thirty-five years the city of New York went from less then a hundred thousand people to at least harbor a half a million souls, in which housing had to be found. In the beginning of the tenement housing it came as a blessing to people living there, because with the low income they were getting it was perfect price to buy. There big rooms were all broken up into small ones, and they basically disregarding light and proper ventilation. The rent was lower, with small apartments and the actual floor that you were on. The tenements were never really cared for, unless the people living in them really took care of them. The people who owned them really didn't care. "Neatness, order, cleanliness, were never dreamed of in connection with the tenant-house system, as it spread its localities from year to year; while reckless slovenliness, discontent, privation, and ignorance were left to work out their invariable results, until the entire premises reached the level of tenant-house dilapidation, containing, but sheltering not, the miserable hordes that crowded benath mouldering, water-rotted roofs or burrowed among the rats of clammy cellars(How the Other Half Lives,p.10)." The only thing the landlord was after was the rent that he wanted, and he didn't care about the actual comfort of the tenants. Because of the living conditions of the tenements, the tenants…

The most magnificent place I’ve ever been is Puerto Rico. With its breath taking landscapes and the calm serenity of the ocean; Puerto Rico is one of the most relaxing and gorgeous places I’ve ever been. The mixes of several different Latin styles play a huge role in not only the music and dancing of Puerto Rico but, also the style of the wardrobe. The best part of Puerto Rico though is the amazing experience and adventures I’ve been on.…

Like many other nights; it is late and I am tired, leaving the bar after my shift and driving home. It must be close to 4o’clock in the morning now; the roads are covered in snow like a cozy white blanket on a cold black night. I seem to be alone on this two lane highway; my headlights are the only ones shining, like two beckons in a lighthouse searching for others in the dark. The roads have just been plowed, very little is on the pavement but the snow is falling fast, within minutes the road will be covered once again and the lines will be impossible to see. I will have to try to make the drive home from memory, exhausted, with almost no visibility.…

People are always talking about being in those situations where time slows down to the point where a few seconds feels like a few minutes, well I didn’t exactly think that is what actually happened. Until a dreary, calm, dull spring afternoon in Briargate (located in Northern Colorado Springs), about a week after my fourteenth birthday, I decided that I was going to go down to this plentifully lush creek next to a well travelled bridge. While I was walking down the sidewalk which lead to a path in the creek these dogs that were always jumping on the fence and barking viciously, the fence was bent outwards at least a foot, I suppose that day I was elected by someone up above to run. About a minute after I walked past the fence I heard this loud cracking of wood. Sure enough as soon as I turned half way around two large mouthed, sharp teethed, muscular Dover mans had just broken through the fence.…
